Freaky!!! Lincecum No-Hits Padres — Again

By on 6.25.14 | 8:32PM

For the second time in less than a year, The Freak no-hit the Padres. This time he did it in front of the home crowd. Lincecum struck out six and only walked one batter. His second inning walk to Chase Headley kept it from being a perfect game.

It is the third no-hitter of the 2014 season, but the first not thrown by a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Josh Beckett threw one against the Phillies in May while Clayton Kershaw no-hit the Rockies last week.

Lincecum becomes the second pitcher in Giants history to throw two no-hitters. The first was Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson who did so with the New York Giants in 1901 and 1905. Lincecum also becomes the second pitcher in MLB history to no-hit the same team twice. Addie Joss, another Hall of Famer, no-hit the Chicago White Sox in 1908 and 1910 while with the Cleveland Naps. Lincecum joins Sandy Koufax (yet another Hall of Famer) as the only pitchers who have at least two no-hitters, two Cy Youngs and two World Series rings.

The Freak also contributed with the bat stroking two hits, scoring in two runs and driving in a run. Lincecum becomes the first pitcher to collect two hits during a no-hitter since Rick Wise hit two home runs while no-hitting the Cincinnati Reds as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. Wise is not enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but he was darn good pitcher for nearly 20 years.

Lincecum improves to 6-5 on the season. For the last several years, Lincecum has not been in Cy Young form. His fastball isn't what it once was and he has struggled with his command at times. But the Padres have now twice found out that Lincecum is still capable of throwing a masterpiece. I'm sure they're freaked out about now.
