To honor the great Dodger broadcaster, who will conclude his remarkable 67-year, hall of fame broadcasting career at the end of the 2016 baseball season, the Los Angeles City Council Friday voted unanimously to name the road leading into Dodger Stadium Vin Scully Avenue.

“This is a few decades late,” said Councilman Paul Krekorian, of the latest honor bestowed on the man who has been the voice of the Dodgers for the team’s entire 55 years on Los Angeles. “My entire life has had Vin Scully as a backdrop,” said Councilman Pal Koretz. “Naming a street is great, but I’d be okay if we named the whole city after him.” Few Dodger fans would argue with this.

“I’m overwhelmed,” the always humble Scully said. He called the re-naming of the former Elysian Park Ave. a great honor.

This is hardly the highest recognition paid to the man many consider the nation’s best sportscaster. But it’s nice to see an honor going to someone who deserves it.

Paul Kantner, founding member of both The Jefferson Airplane and The Jefferson Starship, passed away yesterday at the age of 74. Kantner had suffered a heart attack a few days earlier.

Kantner's health had begun to decline last year following a heart attack although he recovered sufficiently to rejoin Jefferson Starship on tour. He had survived two earlier brushes with death - a motorcycle accident in the 1960's and a cerebral hemorrhage in 1980, but it was not to be this time around.

Kantner played rhythm guitar and occasionally contributed vocals and songs to both groups. He co-wrote "Volunteers" with Marty Balin, a song that would have a prominent place during their set at Woodstock. Kantner also co-wrote "Wooden Ships" with David Crosby and Stephen Stills. While primarily known as a CSN song, Jefferson Airplane also recorded a version which you hear in the video above.

I have just finished watching and live tweeting the GOP main stage debate held in Des Moines and aired on Fox News. Here are my thoughts.

John Kasich - He had a wonderfully eloquent statement about the plight of the mentally ill, but was otherwise a non-factor in the debate. Kasich has been polling well in New Hampshire and will stick around at least until February 9th.

Jeb Bush - He gets better and better with every debate. Despite saying he missed the presence of Trump, I think he was far more relaxed with his absence. Bush came across as confident and even landed a punch against Rubio on immigration. Will voters now give Bush a second look? Not unless he changes his name.

France has been spared another Islamic terrorist attack thanks to security officials at DisneyLand Paris. They stopped a man from entering the facility who was carrying a bag with two guns, ammunition and a Koran. While police have an unidentified man in custody, a female accomplice managed to escape and remains at large.

It will be interesting to see if this man and his accomplice were born in France or are Syrian refugees. Of course, France has become all too familiar with Islamic terrorism especially with the Paris bombings in November which claimed the lives of 130 people as well as the attacks on the offices of Charlie Hebdo which claimed a dozen lives in January 2015 not to mention the March 2012 stabbings in Toulouse and Montauban which claimed the lives of three French paratroopers, three Jewish schoolchildren and a rabbi.

So why target DisneyLand Paris? I would venture to guess that this man and the woman with him think Mickey Mouse is an infidel. If it wasn't so dangerous it would be downright Goofy.
