Gary Loizzo, the lead singer of The American Breed, has passed away following a 2 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 70.
The American Breed is best remembered for their Top 5 Billboard hit "Bend Me, Shape Me" which reached its peak early in 1968.
While The American Breed would eventually morph into Rufus (featuring Chaka Khan), Loizzo would enjoy a successful career as a recording engineer primarily with Styx. These include some of Styx's best selling albums like Cornerstone, Paradise Theatre and Kilroy Was Here.
An avid Chicago White Sox fan, Loizzo co-wrote "Rock With The Sox" which can be heard during Chisox home games.
Here is a video of in which you can hear the young ladies scream for Loizzo and The American Breed as they performed "Bend Me, Shape Me" on The Ed Sullivan Show.
