Thoughts on David Letterman Retirement Announcement

By on 4.4.14 | 1:51PM

David Letterman will call it quits next year after more than three decades on the air first with NBC's Late Night with David Letterman and The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS.

It is believed impetus for the announcement is the massive ratings Jimmy Fallon has received since taking over The Tonight Show in February.

I used to watch his show regularly when I was younger, especially during the NBC days when the likes of Chris Elliott, Larry "Bud" Melman and his stage manager Biff Henderson were regularly featured. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Paul Shaffer who is from my hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario. But in recent years I haven't tuned in as much and wasn't amused at his potshots at Sarah Palin. I doubt Jimmy Fallon shares Palin's politics, but his bit with her the other night shows that people with diverging views can share good humor.

Still, I will probably tune in to see him sign off as I did with Jay Leno earlier this year.
