If you thought celebrities were only good for entertainment, think again. President Obama has wrangled some of “the best” in order to promote his signature health care plan. The program’s only chance at success is the enrollment of young, healthy people. What better way to recruit the young than with their favorite celebrities?
No, not Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus – but how about People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive”? Maroon 5’s Adam Levine has been tweeting about the need to #getcovered.
In case the alluring glare of Levine isn’t enough, here is a video of his mom (along with other celebrity mothers) informing you that you need to sign up for insurance:
Jonah Hill’s mommy, Sharon Feldstein, goes straight for the guilt trip:
Seriously do you want your mothers to have a nervous breakdown. You need health insurance. It’s imperative that you have health insurance…Taking care of yourself so your mothers can sleep and have a nice life after all they’ve done for you is not too much to ask in my opinion.
Michelle Obama ends the ad informing annoyed young adults that “we nag you because we love you.” Oh, I love when my tax dollars pay for propaganda.
But if hot men and nagging mothers don’t do the trick, how about these athletic wonders? Magic Johnson and Lebron James both took time to praise Obamacare up and down:
If that bored you, this video of Lebron James includes shots from his similar campaign to encourage healthy living – his promotion of McDonald’s bacon burgers:
But then again, why not have an Obama impersonator rap lyrics about the ACA to “Drop it Like it’s Hot"? Here it is, straight from the “Prez”:
If you feel discouraged about these celebrities getting paid with our tax dollars to convince young people Obamacare is a great good, take heart. Late-night comedians like Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Conan O'Brien—who rely on private dollars—have been railing on Obamacare for months.
Just last week Jimmy Fallon played Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation with Obama, in which Putin mocks Obama for forcing people to sign up for health insurance:
Also, a few months ago Kimmel went on a lengthy diatribe about the law and even included an older couple taunting young people who have to pay for their health benefits. (Warning: The last thirty seconds can never be unseen):
Last but not least, check out this compilation of snarky, humorous clips from comedians proving that Obamacare is the laughingstock of the nation, courtesy of the Washington Free Beacon:
It’s safe to say that this much late-night television spoofing means discontentment with the law has become a national issue. I mean, did the Farm Bill ever get airtime on The Colbert Report? Even with all Obama’s desperate attempts to rally famous people to his cause, the celebrities are making Obamacare into what we all wish it was—one big joke.
