Obama — Europe ‘Not a Battleground Between East and West’

By on 3.24.14 | 10:46AM

President Obama conducted an interview with a Dutch newspaper prior to his arrival in The Netherlands to start his weeklong overseas trip. He proclaimed, "The United States does not view Europe as a battleground between East and West, nor do we view the situation in Ukraine as a zero sum game. That's the kind of thinking that should have ended with the Cold War."

Well, President Obama might not view Europe as a battleground between East and West, but Vladimir Putin most certainly does. He might also believe the Cold War is over, but Putin most certainly doesn't. The President's statement reinforces Mitt Romney's assertion yesterday about Obama's "naivete with regards to Russia."

Of course, Obama was able to get away with ridiculing Romney for stating that Russia is our "number one geopolitical foe" during the 2012 campaign. But if in 2014, Obama believes Europe isn't a battleground between East and West and that the Cold War hasn't resumed, then he probably still believes Russia isn't our number one geopolitical foe.

In which case, God help us.
