By on 2.21.14 | 8:25PM

Earlier today, Canada defeated the United States 1-0 in the men’s hockey semi-final at the Sochi Olympics. Canada advances to the gold medal match against Sweden on Sunday. The U.S. team can still earn a bronze with a victory over Finland tomorrow.

This comes a day after the Canadian women’s hockey team won the gold medal by staging a comeback victory in overtime against the U.S. winning 3-2.

And with that here is what I wrote about the meaning of hockey to Canada after the men’s hockey team defeated the U.S. for the gold medal in the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.

UPDATE: Canada wins the gold shutting out Sweden 3-0. Speaking of being shut out, the U.S. was blanked 5-0 by Finland in the bronze medal game.
