Planned Parenthood Opposes Reasonable Regulation in Alaska

By on 1.30.14 | 4:46PM

Planned Parenthood is again opposing reasonable regulation of abortion doctors, this time in Alaska.

Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest is suing Alaska's state health commissioner over regulations that go into effect on Sunday requiring doctors who receive Medicaid payments to certify that procedures are either "medically necessary" or that the patient is a victim of rape or incest.

The national organization claims that the regulation will lower abortion access for low-income Alaskans.

Doctors who want to receive Medicaid funds for abortions will have to check a box on a form certfying one of the two qualifications.

Does Planned Parenthood practice any type of prudence? They don't seem to know when to pick a battle. It's further proof that liberal Democrats are the true extremists in the abortion debate.

The regulation allows abortions for any kind of "imminent" danger to a "major bodily function." The law lists some of the worst, which include, according to Reuters, "congestive heart failure, a pregnancy complication called eclampsia, and a psychiatric disorder..."

Thus, we have a lobby in this nation that will forever fight on for immediate abortion for whatever reason at any point of pregnancy. This is absolutism at its worst.

And, yet, it's also coldly logical. Planned Parenthood earns 45 percent of its revenues from "government health services grants and reimbursements." Read: Medicaid payments.

Could it be that Planned Parenthood doesn't care only about the low-income victims of pregnancy? Could there be a financial motive to all this opposition to common sense paperwork?

In 2012, 327,166 abortions were performed at PP clinics around the nation. While we don't know how much each procedure costs, we do know that somebody is profiting from all these deaths.

And the managers of Planned Parenthood will make sure that nobody, not even state regulators protecting the common good, will intervene in their slaughter.
