Assault on Science the Subject of Congressional Presentation

By on 10.7.13 | 1:00PM

When public policy is detached from sound science, average citizens lose. But they are often unaware of the consequences. That’s why John Droz, a physicist and environmental advocate, has put together a detailed talk entitled “Science Under Assault” that will be delivered twice today before the House Science, Space and Technology Committee

Droz oversees a non-profit group called the Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions (AWED), which includes a network of over 600 PhDs who are committed to scientific integrity.

“My talk is about how science is being subtly but successfully undermined across the board, from our education system to the media — yet almost no one realizes the magnitude of what is going on," Droz said. “This has profoundly adverse consequences on our economy, national security, and freedoms. ‘Science Under Assault’ is an unusually candid critique of this extraordinarily significant phenomena of our times.”

An online version of the talk is available here.

“In our view, government policies on all of these technical matters should be based on genuine scientific assessments,” Droz added. “Unfortunately, that is usually not the case, as real science has been under siege by lobbyists promoting their clients’ economic and/or political agendas.”

Fortunately, a growing number of scientific skeptics are stepping to challenge unfounded alarmist assertions, which have been advanced through the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The Heartland Institute’s Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) was released in September a few weeks ahead of the summary report the U.N. has attached to its upcoming Fifth Assessment Report.

It’s refreshing to see scientific rebuttals of global warming alarmism finding greater expression thanks to the heavy lifting of key players like Heartland, the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), and the Heritage Foundation.

Droz’s organization is an important part of this equation. By accumulating a cross-section of complex material and organizing into a highly readable, cogent format, he has performed a valuable public service.
