How do we know the audience reaction was racist? Is it so beyond the realm of possibility that people can actually dislike President Obama because of his policies and personal disposition rather than his skin color?
Trust me, I've heard far worse from audiences at poetry slams in the supposedly enlightened bastion of Cambridge, Massachusetts where I've "poets" wax eloquent about "killing Bush", "Sarah Palin should be raped" and "f*#k Jesus" to wild approval.
With this in mind, could please tell me the difference between an audience cheering "stomp Obama" and an audience cheering "burn a Bush"? The former becomes the top story of the day and is roundly condemned. The latter is a footnote about which little is said except for the fact that Michelle Obama invites the man who uttered "burn a Bush" to read poetry at the White House.
