Has tort reform been good for Texas? Attorney General Greg Abbott sure thinks so, and it’s hard to disagree with him. Nonetheless, personal injury lawyers can’t forgive him his tort-reform advocacy, given the damages he won after he was left paralyzed by a falling tree. Is he guilty of hypocrisy? Or are some obvious distinctions in order? Richard Weekley of Texans for Lawsuit Reform addressed the matter in a recent Houston Chronicle op-ed. It’s very much worth keeping in mind, now that Abbott seems destined to become the next Texas governor in a campaign that’s bound to become contentious.
