Yesterday’s Independence Day festivities in the nation’s capital included a protest of NSA surveillance called #RestoreTheFourth. A diverse crowd of 200 to 250 gathered, brandishing signs, distributing literature, and chanting slogans. Speakers included NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake, who was unsuccessfully prosecuted under the Espionage Act, Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin, and Cato Institute privacy expert Julian Sanchez.
