Following Los Angeles Dodgers' outfield sensation Yasiel Puig's first week in a big league uniform, I wrote a piece titled, "Player of the Week".
Well, as it turns out, I could have written an article titled "Player of the Month". During the month of June, Puig hit .436 with 7 HR, 16 RBI and an OBP of .467. Puig collected 44 hits in his first month as a major leaguer. The only rookie who fared better in his first month in the bigs was Joe DiMaggio. The Yankee Clipper collected 48 hits in May 1936.
Now Puig has a long way to go before his career can be likened with that of Joltin' Joe's. A lot can and might very well go wrong. We'll see how he's hitting in September. But Puig's career has gotten off to one hell of a start.
