Tonight President Obama goes on your show.
Our friend Brent Bozell raises an excellent point.
The last time Obama did Letterman, in September of 2009, he suavely told an admiring you that "unemployment is still going to be a big problem for at least another year." He also said that the "single most important task for my administration and my economic advisors is how do we make sure that we put people back to work."
The "big problem" is now an ongoing still bigger problem.
Mr. Bozell had a thought.
Letterman is paid millions to ask questions, so will he have the courage tonight to ask the obvious follow-up: "Why, after three more years of your leadership, Mr. President, is unemployment still a big problem?" Since Obama made that statement in September 2009, we've had 36 straight months of unemployment above 8%.
The Media Research Center is calling on its membership to contact Mr. Letterman and CBS by phone, Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Letterman and Twitter https://twitter.com/Late_Show to demand that Letterman hold Obama accountable for his statement on the Late Show three years ago. Letterman has regularly asked aggressive, challenging questions of conservatives, and it's about time he did something to balance that out.
Excellent! We'd love to see you, ole Dave, man up to the task!
So for you Dave fans out there? I'd encourage you to click on Dave's Facebook and Twitter sites and ask him to ask the President something like…..the Top Ten reasons the unemployment rate is still above 8%.
One suspects if Dave asked, the answers would go something like this:
Number 10: It's Bush's Fault
Number 9: It's Bush's Fault
Number 8: It's Bush's Fault
Number 7: It's Bush's Fault
Number 6: It's Bush's fault
Number 5: It's Bush's Fault
Number 4: It's Bush's Fault
Number 3: It's Bush's fault
Number 2: It's Bush's fault
And the Number One Reason I, your president, was wrong about unemployment?
I don't have a clue about what I'm doing!
But…we'll see. First, Dave, you're The Man. You have to ask the question.
So Dave fans, give Dave a click and ask him to ask.
But be prepared for an episode of the Silence of the Hams.
