Renowned composer, arranger and conductor Marvin Hamlisch passed away last night at the age of 68. His cause of death is not known apart from that he had suffered from a brief illness.
Along with Richard Rodgers (of Rodgers & Hart and Rodgers & Hammerstein fame), Hamlisch is the only person to have won an Oscar, a Tony, a Grammy, an Emmy and a Pulitzer Prize.
Hamlisch wrote the score for movies such as The Sting, The Way We Were as well as for the Broadway production of A Chorus Line. His best known work is "The Entertainer" from The Sting which was adapted from the music of Scott Joplin. Hamlisch also contributed to James Bond lore by co-writing "Nobody Does It Better" for the film The Spy Who Loved Me with his then girlfriend, Carole Bayer Singer. Aside from "You're So Vain," it would be the biggest hit of Carly Simon's career.
