Well, that was quite a discussion on Israel. Somehow I suspect if Romney and Santorum weren't running against Newt they might come out in agreement with what he said about the Palestinians being an "invented people."
Romney accused Gingrich of making things more difficult for Bibi Netanyahu. Give me a break. It implies the Palestinians would have been interested in going to the negotiating table if not for Newt. Fatah is far more interested in making nice with Hamas than it is with Israel. It is curious that Romney asserts he would bring about "sobriety, care and stability" on foreign policy. I wish Romney had that in mind when he said the United States should to look to Hezbollah as a model of diplomacy in Iowa back in 2007. Newt had a good counter when he reminded Romney had called the Soviet Union "an evil empire" and told Gorbachev to "tear down this wall" much to the horror of the State Department.
Michele Bachmann described an anecdote in which she confronted Palestinian Authority President Salam Fayyad about Palestinian textbooks which described Jews as apes and pigs. Fayyad said those were old textbooks. Bachmann pulled out photocopies from textbooks with said incendiary language. Fayyad said that it was from the old edition. Bachmann asked Fayyad to send her a new copy. As of this moment, Bachmann has not received addressed to her from Ramallah.
The truth about the Palestinians needs to be told even if that truth hurts.
