Medicaid Provision of Obamacare Could Be Far Costlier Than Projected

By on 10.27.11 | 11:21AM

Reason's Peter Suderman has a good write-up of a new study from Harvard health care economistss that finds that Medicaid enrollment under Obamacare may be far higher than the official projections. As a result, the amount of federal spending on Medicaid through Obamacare could be twice as much as anticipated.

Suderman points out that, officially, Obamacare was projected to run up about $950 billion in new spending during its first decade. Based on this new study, the Medicaid expansion provision of the law alone could cost more than that.
