If it is true that Peyton Manning is out for the season, it's a sad day for football. Manning isn't my quarterback, but he is a consummate athlete, competitor, professional, and gentleman. With him, the Indianapolis Colts are in the Super Bowl hunt every year. Without him, despite last night's flashes from the defense and rushing attack, they look mediocre at best. And injury or not, he is probably on the tail end of his career.
Americans could use more greatness, even in our diversions. This future first-ballot Hall of Famer is one of the greats. He isn't on injured reserve yet, so I still hope that Manning is back in action by the time the Colts face the New England Patriots late this season.
