Sen. Jon Kyl is a Republican member of the super committee, but he said today he'll resign if the panel cuts defense spending any further. Despite expressing optimism that the bipartisan group would be able to accomplish its mission, Kyl was quoted as saying, "My point of view is that defense should not have any more cuts."
Kyl reportedly told the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute that if the super comittee produced more defense cuts he was "off the committee." If the committee can't come up with a plan, half the spending cuts imposed by the "automatic triggers" would come out of the defense/security budget.
