It seems to me if the president decides to veto a continuing resolution that moves to within $7 billion of the Democrats' position on spending, he ought to be the person who gets most of the blame for the shutdown. I'm not holding my breath that he will get the blame, but it definitely makes claims of Republican intransigence hard to swallow.
UPDATE: Here's some truly bizarre logic from the Democratic whip press shop: "If Republicans needed any further proof that their partisan one-week CR will shut down the government, the President has announced he will veto it."
Err, if Congress passes a continuing resolution funding the government and the president decides to veto it, isn't he the one shutting down the government?
