That Ted Kennedy can be so cheeky. A Washington Times story indicates that Alito is going to have to face the wiretap issue in his confirmation hearings, and here's an excerpt.
There are times when individuals or executives, but I'm totally not naming names here, just, you know, people, believe they're above the law. Sometimes, they steal elections. Sometimes, they lie to the American people in order to wage a war for oil. And somtimes, just sometimes, they'll eavesdrop and spy on the American people.
This is completely unlike those other people who, in the most dignified of ways, drive cars off bridges.
Besides, remember the torture memos and Gonzales? Yawn. The American people are perfectly okay with broad executive power in wartime. So whenever you hear Ted say something like this, just be sure to add those two words: "...In wartime."
