New Poll Has Crist up 11 Points

By on 6.21.10 | 3:24PM

A Florida Chamber of Commerce poll released Sunday has Charlie Crist up 11 points over Marco Rubio in November's Senate race. According to the poll, the governor has 42 percent, while the former speaker of the Florida House has 31 percent, and Democratic Congressman Kendrick Meek has 16 percent.

Polls have reported significant gains for Crist in the last month, although the extent of his progress varies depending on the source. Rasmussen has Crist and Rubio tied up at 37 each, with Crist closing an 8 point deficit in the last 3 weeks.

FrumForum speculates that the oil spill has hurt the Republican brand in Florida and that Democrats may opt to vote for Crist over Kendrick Meek in order to spoil a GOP victory.

I'm somewhat puzzled as to why Meek is only getting 16 percent. The congressman's fundraising numbers are comparable to Rubio's. It would seem that if the Democrats make a push for the seat after the August primary, the new votes would come out of Crist's stash, rather than Rubio's -- if one believes this poll that more than half of Crist's supporters are Democrats.
