Sen. Evan Bayh just made his retirement official in a press conference. Surrounded by his wife and two sons, Bayh complained about the excessive partisanship in Washington.
Though he explained he wanted to help solve the nation's problems, he said, "I do not love Congress." And in a statement sure to spark speculation that he'll aim to become governor again or run for president, he declared, "I’m an executive at heart."
He insisted he was confident that he would be able to win reelection, but said that "Running just to win reelection is not good enough."
Bayh suggested he could accomplish more elsewhere, and mentioned leading a business, heading a university, or running a charity as possibilities.
