Today, Queen Elizabeth II became the longest reigning monarch in British history, surpassing the reign of her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria, who reigned from 1837 to 1901.
Elizabeth II has been Queen since February 6, 1952. Her reign has spanned from Churchill to Cameron, from Truman through Obama (and hopefully beyond).
Yes, I know many Americans are averse to the concept of the monarchy. Shots rang out at Concord and Lexington and a revolution ensued. But let’s face it. There is a lot of royalty in America or at the very least a lot of people who think they are regal. When you consider them and consider some other heads of states, we have done a lot worse than Elizabeth II.
