The polls haven't closed in Massachusetts yet, and the finger pointing has already begun. With the White House and the Democratic National Committee starting to throw Martha Coakley under the bus, the Coakley campaign is fighting back in the form of a memo from an adviser, which was leaked to the Politico. You can read the whole thing here, but this point jumped out of me:
-- From the beginning, Brown labeled President Obama's health care and cap and trade plans as tax increases. Polling throughout the race showed this to be the most effective attack on Coakley.
And it can't be emphasized enough that this is the liberal bastion of Massachusetts we're talking about. Imagine how effective those attacks will be in the rest of the country.
UPDATE: A Democratic Party official responds, calling the memo "a pack full of lies and fantasies," and referring to the Coakley campaign as "political malpractice." And an Obama administration official barbs, "Last I checked, Fenway Park is not in Afghanistan." Ouch! It's getting nasty, and the polls don't close for another three hours.
