At CFIF, I detail secretary of labor nominee Thomas Perez’s long, sad record of hindering police and fire departments — and why it might put Mary Landrieu, in particular, in a bind. Landrieu, to her credit, is nothing if not a bulldog for the interests of her city and state. Her brother Mitch, the mayor of New Orleans, has a beef with Perez’s Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice:

What happened was that after Landrieu negotiated a $55 million payment by the city, DoJ separately negotiated another $17 million set of “reforms” with the Orleans Parish Sheriff – reforms which, through a quirk in state law, will also be the city’s financial responsibility. Now Mayor Landrieu is fuming, and specifically blaming Perez’ Civil Rights Division for holding “a gun to the city’s head”.

As I’ve explained numerous times before, Mayor Bloomberg of New York, obviously no conservative, is even more angry at the work of Perez’s division.

As I’ve said, this guy Perez is a radical’s radical.

But Landreiu and Bloomberg have no problem with the guy who appointed Perez!

Does anybody else see a disconnect here?

What do they call it? Cognitive Dissonance?

Now that is a good name for the Democratic party: "The Party of Cognitive Dissonance!"

Please allow me to offer the reason that Landrieu will vote for Perez, despite the financial damage he has already inflicted upon her constituents in New Orleans:

It's George Bush's fault.

If that doesn't work-

It's Bobby Jindal's fault.

And then its the sequester and the Republican "austerity" budget's fault.

Wait lets tell the entire story here, and not ignore Mary's "Louisiana Purchase" okay? When Barry etc needs votes for his stimulus, Obamacare etc, Mary Purchase is no doubt first in line with her loyal Democrat political support. Her brother is apparently a vast improvement over Retreat-to-Vegas-During Katrina-Nagin, but thats like saying a Mercedes is an improvement over a Ford Edsel. Remember also that their daddy was known as Moon The........[well never mind] for infiltrating City Hall with politically correct brother-employees. Nah, Louisiana Purchase Mary is not a cap feather for Louisiana in my opinion and never has been so, and it would benefit the state greatly if a conservative replacement could be implemented for her!!!!

Someone needs to tell Sen. Landrieu (a fellow native Louisianian) "You lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas." Her readiness to cave into the Obama health-care agenda has cost many of her constituents $65 a month for each person insured under Obama's "Affordable Care Act," and her present troubles with Obama's Department of Justice are nothing but karma striking.

We are talking about the same New Orleans Police Department in which cops shot citizens in the back and covered it up after Hurricane Katrina, right?

Oldefarte| 3.22.13 @ 11:43AM

Lets tell the truth here. Those "citizens" were actually drug addited criminals that were intent upon vacated home invasion of suburban areas [and were not intent upon escaping only] during Katrina [and had no legitimate business/purpose within those areas], and the policemen were attempting to protect those areas [when the city's mayor etc had run away to Vegas to protect himself instead of doing his administrative duties]. Also they were not shot 'in the back", so again try telling the truth!!!!!

One of the victims who was shot in the back was a retarded man leaving his flooded home for higher ground. None of the victims was found to be involved in criminal activity. They were, simply, citizens going about their business.

However, a person who considers all black people criminals as you do, would, of course, see nothing wrong with shooting any black person at any time.

Quin Hillyer| 3.22.13 @ 10:34AM

I don't think they shot citizens in the back (I could be wrong there), but they were clearly found to have acted horrendously. That's why I said the reforms in this case were "much needed." It was the double-cross, the unwillingness to take "yes" for an answer without doing yet something else to turn the screws, that was objectionable here from DoJ's part.

The Wikipedia entry on the bridge shooting is accurate:

"The Danziger Bridge shootings were police shootings that took place on September 4, 2005, at the Danziger Bridge in New Orleans, Louisiana. Six days after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, members of the city's police department killed two people: 17-year-old James Brissette and 40-year-old Ronald Madison. Four other people were wounded. All victims were unarmed. Madison, a mentally disabled man, was shot in the back. New Orleans police fabricated a cover-up story for their crime, falsely reporting that seven police officers responded to a police dispatch reporting an officer down, and that at least four people were firing weapons at the officers upon their arrival.

On August 5, 2011, a New Orleans Federal Court jury convicted five police officers of a myriad of charges related to the cover-up and deprivation of civil rights."

And this kind of criminal activity by the New Orleans police is not isolated. The city may have the most corrupt police force in the country. It is ridiculous to criticize Tom Perez for cleaning it up.

The whore of Obamacare is a progressive first. She will relish the fireman and police getting gutted because it will be just another excuse for her to go on about raising taxes, bringing home pork spending, and empowering the government.
