South Carolina’s former Gov. Mark Sanford is the man to beat in
the GOP primary to fill the state’s 1st Congressional District,
according to internal campaign polls
obtained by Island
Packet:
Internal polling by several campaigns indicate Sanford has
captured about one-third of likely GOP voters, making him the
front-runner.
That’s leading to some mudslinging among the other candidates
vying to emerge from Tuesday’s GOP primary. Assuming no candidate
receives more than 50 percent of the vote — which is not expected
with 16 candidates in the race — Sanford and the runner-up will
duke it out in an April 2 GOP runoff.

South Carolina deserves him.
