So now that Martin O'Malley is officially seeking the Democratic Party nomination, let me take this moment to remind you that this is the same man who once compared former President George W. Bush to the 9/11 terrorists when he objected to proposed budget cuts. Here is what he said at the National Press Club in February 2005 when he was Mayor of Baltimore:
Back on September 11, terrorists attacked our metropolitan cores, two of America's great cities. They did that because they knew that was where they could do the most damage and weaken us the most. Years later, we are given a budget proposal by our commander in chief, the president of the United States. And with a budget ax, he is attacking America's cities. He is attacking our metropolitan core.
Of course, this didn't prevent voters in Maryland from electing O'Malley as their governor for two terms. But it is indicative of the level of thinking in Democratic Party precincts then as now.
