Virginia Republicans, who constantly talk a good game on
property rights, will have the opportunity to make good on their
rhetoric tomorrow. That’s when the Senate Agriculture Committee
will vote on HB-1430
– “The Boneta Bill.” The legislation sponsored by Del. L. Scott
Lingamfelter, R-Prince William, would help to insulate farmers from
intrusive government actions. The bill is named for Martha Boneta,
a Fauquier County farmer, who has been on the receiving end of some
very bizarre anti-business directives.
County officials have filed a complaint against Boneta based on
zoning violation allegations that amount to what
Adam Cassandra, chairman of the Fauquier County Young
Republicans, aptly describes as “unnecessary government
interferences in the marketplace.”
Boneta does have a business license for her farm store, which is
located in Paris, Virginia. But this has not deterred the county
government from interfering with Boneta’s very modest economic
transactions. Because she has sold organic tea and wool products
obtained from rescued animals, Boneta has been threatened with
thousands of dollars in fines. The other part of the dispute cited
in the zoning complaint concerns “an event” Boneta held on her
farm. That event would be a birthday party for the 10-year old
daughter of a family friend. Apparently, Boneta needed some sort of
permit.
Lingamfelter’s bill would amend the existing Virginia Farm Act
with additional language aimed at preventing government officials
from intruding upon property rights.
Unfortunately, Boneta has been forced to close the store located
on her property until the case is resolved. This is kind of
mistreatment that calls out for a firm response. During
a press conference held at the State Capitol building in
Richmond this past January, Boneta noted that the day to day
challenges of running a farm are such that government officials
should be working to remove obstacles that undermine small
business. Right now that’s not happening. That can change if the
Boneta Bill becomes law.

Why should anybody be surprised by this?
This County is a bedroom community for Federal Bureaucrats who work for the US Government inside the Washington DC Beltway. Faurquier County is just west of the historic Manassas Civil War Battle Field. Most of the people who live here make their living creating or interpreting the rules and regulations the Federal Government burdens the rest of the Nation with. They are used to being subjects of our elected aristocracy and no longer view themselves as free men and women.
The Farquier County Board of Supervisors does stuff like this every time they meet. Click on their Thursday February 14th agenda below; it is listed for the public. 1st item in the column on the left:

Like it or not, Republican or Democrat; this is what our country has become, from sea to shining sea!
And these people can't even feed themselves unless the people who are being taxed like this out there in flyover country grow the food for them and deliver it to them!
Isn't this something like what our forefathers rebelled against in 1776?

Everyday we seem to be losing more and more of our Constitutional freedoms. I don't understand what is her county's problem with her business, in rural California many people who own small farms also have fruit and vegetable stands. I wouldn't think that this county in Virginia would be more restrictive than California.

This county is more restrictive than California because the people who live in it are highly paid bureaucrats who make their money devising and interpreting regulations that tell the rest of the country how to live. When they go home at night they tell their neighbors how to live!
This county ranks 8th out of the 10 richest counties in the USA. 7 of these 10 c0unties (8 of the 1st 11) are in the suburbs of Washington DC.
The link below explains it all.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.....ted_States
Notice that this county only has 66,000 people but the average household income there is $93,000.00.
The people who live in these counties make their money working for the federal government. They work 35 hours a week, get 5 weeks vacation and great pensions thanks to the tax payers! They think that the government knows best how people should live.
The people in the rest of the USA are too busy earning a living to be bothered with this.

i wouldn't place too much faith in a legislative body that contains such 'notables' as Dick(head) Saslaw and Joey "AK-47" Morrissey

Virginia republicans, led by Gov. McDonnell and current Lt.Gov Bolling, are doing everything in their power to destroy the republican brand. Namely increasing taxes, refusing govnt audits, devising legislation that is basically a backdoor to a state exchange for obamacare, defeating (once again) photo ID for voting. Bolling has been taunting Virginia republicans he will run as an independent for Governor so he can destroy the chances of Cuccinelli. The current republican leadership in Virginia is apparently full of traitors to freedom. I believe that they are, at least in regards to Bolling running as independent, possibly taking marching orders from Karl Rove and others. The tea party has been fighting this and we will continue to be on the side of freedom. Virginians please wake up.
