Houston Has No Problem With The Yankees

By on 10.6.15 | 11:34PM

The Houston Astros have won the AL Wild Card game defeating the New York Yankees 3-0 at Yankee Stadium.

I didn't think Dallas Keuchel would do much on three days rest against Masahiro Tanaka, but Keuchel went six scoreless innings combining with Tony Sipp, Will Harris and Luke Gregerson on a three-hit shutout. The only chance the Yankees had was in the sixth when A-Rod was up with runners on first and second with two out, but he flied out to center to end the inning. As it turned out, Houston had no problem.

The Astros got their runs on two solo home runs off Tanaka by Colby Rasmus in the 2nd and Carlos Gomez in the 4th. They would add a run in the seventh on a Jose Altuve single off Dellin Betances.

Houston advances to the ALDS against the Kansas City Royals starting Thursday night in K.C. I think the Astros can take the Royals.

If the Astros somehow win the AL pennant they will become the first team in MLB history to represent both leagues in the World Series. They won the NL pennant in 2005 which was their last post-season appearance until now.

Twitter Lights Up Over Mag Declaring Kardashians the “First Family”

Cosmopolitan is not the world's foremost political magazine, not by a long shot. Occasionally, yes, it tries to take itself more seriously than it has any right to do, launching "voter drives" and "information campaigns" encouraging college-aged women to vote, but such efforts always seem to vastly underestimate women's intelligence, either by insisting that women vote in lock-step and often with nothing other than their ladyparts in mind, or by simply insulting women outright.

If the "bus full of male models" stunt doesn't fully inform you of Cosmo's seriousness on the issue, perhaps this video will help enlighten you.

Joe Biden Reportedly Leaked Beau Biden’s Dying Wish Himself

By on 10.6.15 | 12:23PM

You'll nary hear me utter an unkind word about Joe Biden - after all, the man is a silver fox - but the time is drawing close where I'm going to have to adjust how I feel about the man who haunts my dreams with his yellow corvette, his REO Speedwagon, his aviator sunglasses, and his kegs of Natty Lite, since it seems, more and more, like he'll join the race for President.

Joe Biden will likely wait until after the first Democratic Presidential debate, to see how badly Hillary fares and to capitalize on the public's abject terror at having Bernie Sanders, a man who's hairdo is inspired by electroshock victims, as their nominee, but Biden has already floated Elizabeth Warren as Veep, and now it turns out, he's been laying groundwork for his emotional appeal for some time. According to a special report by POLITICO, it was Joe Biden himself who leaked word that his son, Beau Biden's, dying wish was that Joe run for President.

Joe Biden has been making his 2016 deliberations all about his late son since August.

The Morning Spectacle: Ridin’ With Biden

By on 10.6.15 | 10:30AM

Good morning, Spectators! Have you missed the Morning Spectacle? Well, it's back and better than ever!

In Our Sights

Joe Biden is still weighing whether to get into the race (he'll probably keep weighing it until after Hillary fails the first debate), but he's already floating potential Veeps, including Chief Takes-a-Lot, Elizabeth Warren (D-$8.5M Net Worth).

Hillary Clinton showed up on Good Morning America this morning all, "HILLARY ANGRY, HILLARY SMASH," hitting at Kevin McCarthy's . statements about Benghazi affecting her poll numbers. In fairness, though, she was already angry, having just seen them

Baseball’s Wild Nights

By on 10.6.15 | 7:29AM

Major League Baseball’s abbreviated wildcard round gets under way this evening when the Houston Astros come to the Bronx to play the New York Yankees (known to some as The Evil Empire). The Chicago Cubs travel to Pittsburgh to strap on the Pirates Wednesday. Both games are scheduled to start at 8:08. The winners of these two games move on to the league Division Series that begin Friday.

Baseball’s new wildcard format, which calls for a single game to sort the two non-division winners with the highest won-lost percentages in both Major Leagues, is peculiarly unsuited to the Grand Old Game. A team that has achieved over a 162-game season should not be sent home as the result of losing one of one.

Baseball is not a one-game game. Too much depends on how good a night teams’ pitchers are having in a single game. The longer series tell the story of which team is superior (though even these are not foolproof — look at the ’69 Mets or the ’88 Dodgers). Even the College World Series is double elimination.

Yankees Pitcher C.C. Sabathia to Miss Post-Season to Enter Alcohol Rehab

By on 10.5.15 | 8:03PM

I was saddened to read that New York Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia would be entering alcohol rehab and miss the post-season.

Obviously both Sabathia and the club must have determined that his condition was serious enough to warrant missing the playoffs. The Yankees don't have a very deep starting rotation. After Masahiro Tanaka (who will start tomorrow night's AL Wild Card game against the Astros) you've got Michael Pineda, Ivan Nova, Adam Warren and rookie Luis Severino. You never know what you're going to get with any of them. I suppose you could put Nathan Eovaldi into the mix, but he's been having elbow problems and hasn't pitched in a month. The Yankees do have an outstanding bullpen with Dellin Bettances and Andrew Miller, but it does help if your starting pitching can go deep. (Although the same could be said of the Kansas City Royals as well).

When Hillary Clinton is President, She’ll Use Her Pen and Phone…On Your Guns

By on 10.5.15 | 4:31PM

Hillary Clinton is desperate to get on the gun-grabbing bandwagon because its the only place she can feel truly to the left of Bernie Sanders (who has expressed support for gun rights in the past), for the moment anyway.

Aaron talked about it this morning, but suffice it to say, Hillary has been over herself all weekend, trying to prove to progressive that once she's fully minted in the position of Commander in Chief, her top priority will be grabbing the nation's guns and hosting a mass meltdown on the White House lawn. And if Congress won't help her because they're too far into the pockets of the NRA, well, she'll use her pen and her phone, and she'll take those guns by force, and by executive order

The proposal most likely to generate controversy is using executive action to close the so-called gun show loophole, if efforts to pass new measures in Congress do not succeed, according to a campaign aide to Mrs. Clinton, who asked for anonymity to lay out the plans before the candidate does…
