Hagel Hammered in Hearing

Heil Hagel's getting softballed ala Kerry.

Can some republican committee member just spend his/her allotted 5 minutes explaining why he will be a horrible defense secretary.

He's going to be nominated so why waste your time by allowing him to talk out your five minutes?

A good five minute monologue is what's needed!

Bob Grant| 1.31.13 @ 2:31PM

I stand corrected! Ted Cruz delivers devastating blows to Hagel. Graham also stepped up.

Perhaps I commented too soon.

Al Adab| 1.31.13 @ 3:33PM

Cruz voted against Kerry to his everlasting credit.

Bob Grant| 1.31.13 @ 3:59PM

To Cruz's everlasting credit, he chose to play an audio tape of an interview of Hagel by Al Jaziera in which he agreed with a write-in question about America being a "bully" and how it has no right to dictate to other countries, AGAINST committee chair Patrick Leahy's wishes. In addition to voting against Kerry and his strong statements during the Gun Violence hearings, he thoroughly dismantled Chuck U Schumer on Meet the Press.

This man's having an excellent week and is fast becoming Target Number One for democrats.

He's fast becoming THE republican rock star.

Cruz is a despicable Neocon Chicken Hawk.

Occam's Tool| 1.31.13 @ 10:11PM

And you spread your butt cheeks for jihadis every day of the week and twice on Sundays, William. When you aren't fellating them instead, scuzballo.

Hagel is vermin. Cruz should be using him as an ashtray.

Getting rid of Saddam wasn't that expensive, nor did it cost that many luives. Attempting to build a democracy with Islamic savages was both, and should not have been attempted. As we should do with Iran: beat them into the ground, destroy their water and electric infrastructures, take their oil, and leave their re-building up to their fellow Islamics. We owe them no Jirzya.

Bob Grant| 1.31.13 @ 10:45PM

I suppose in today's World being a "neocon" means calling a spade a shovel i.e., Iran for what they are: a terrorist state!

Hagel was a loyal conservative war hero. He voted for going into Iraq. After he figured out what a fiasco it was, he got up and said so. He also asked a couple mild questions about the 5th column who controls Congress. He was right on all his points. now he has caved in to the Lobby on almost all points. I don't knw why you guys should be against him? He has been approved by almost all Jewish senators and will be confirmed. He will forever keep his mouth shut, from now on.

Kingofthenet| 1.31.13 @ 4:22PM

Supporters of the Iraq War also say, 'You can't argue that Saddam being gone isn't a good thing' to which I reply, the war to me seems a lot like building a Dog House out of Gold Bars, I have no doubt it would look good, and be easy to clean, but it certainly isn't a good use of resources. I think we 'could' have found better uses for 5,000+ dead Soldiers, and tens of thousands more maimed, certainly we could have used that three trillion dollars at home. No I do not believe getting rid of Saddam was worth that.

Bob Grant| 1.31.13 @ 4:33PM

Queen,

Why the sudden concern about where dollars are spent?

Deficit? ...in the words of Hillary: "What difference does it make"!!!

One quick phone call to Ben Bernanke will allay all of your concerns.

CJW| 1.31.13 @ 5:53PM

What has Obama accomplished in Afghan? We are withdrawing, as Obama did in Iraq. What about the dead and injured in Afghan under Obama? You seem concerned for the dead and injured only if you can use them to attack Bush.

Commander Kelly | 1.31.13 @ 4:32PM

Hagel knows nothing about Iranian politics but would like to become our next Secretary of State, following in the footsteps of Jefferson...HMMM.

Manchin was a disgrace, he practically was groping Hagel, at one time I yelled at my computer, get a room.

Cruz was great, I even found myself agreeing with Graham which is rare. I didn't catch the entire hearing only pieces of it while working. The Dems will likely be sheeple and vote for him, any R who votes for him is an idiot.

C Bowen | 1.31.13 @ 7:56PM

The title of this video suggests that AmSpec's funding in Babylon on the Potomac is still very neocon.

Cheering McAmnesty and Grahmnesty a day after their latest hijinks to elect a new people is a neat media trick--to the folks over 60 who still fall for this nonsense.

Occam's Tool| 1.31.13 @ 10:12PM

I couldn't care less about our Senators, Bowen, but Hagel is an antisemitic, anti-American scumbag, as are you.

C Bowen | 2.1.13 @ 8:05PM

You were the one who wants to turn the Arab countries into a sea of glass right? And enslave survivors?

Why my ancestors let you in, I have no idea, but please leave.

Derek Leaberry| 2.1.13 @ 8:18AM

The Hagel nomination is a thing of beauty. He's a bumbling nitwit and must have the vermin at Daily Kos gnashing their teeth not to say Barrack Obama, the White House and the Democrats in Congress. Yet Hagel will be confirmed and McCain and his sweetheart Graham will lose. Wonderful.

C Bowen | 2.1.13 @ 8:06PM

Indeed--not as 'wonderful' a spectacle as I was hoping for, but it will have to do.
