President Obama rolled out his own call for comprehensive immigration reform, one day after a bipartisan team of senators did the same.

Although he addressed a campaign-style rally audience in Nevada, the majority of his message was directed at Congress, 2,400 miles away.

The president claimed that the debate was over, that there was already substantial consensus in place, and that “this time, action should follow.” If Congress couldn’t get anything passed in a timely fashion, he warned that he would then send his own legislation and insist that they vote on it right away.

The president listed what his administration had already done about immigration, including claims that illegal border crossings had decreased by 80% and that there were more “boots on the ground” than ever before. He also lauded his own executive order version of the DREAM Act.

He outlined what he thought needed to be the main points in comprehensive legislation.

His points called for a continued focus on enforcement, including penalties on businesses that hire illegal immigrants, and a national system to quickly identify legal immigrants so that businesses can be penalized more effectively. He also called for a clear pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented workers currently in the country, as well as provisions that make immigration possible and attractive to foreign students and entrepeneurs — namely, as he actually said, the Einsteins and the Carnegies of the 21st Century.

The president left for Nevada at 9:25 am and will return to Washington tonight at about 9:00 pm.

Here is the FACTS, there in NO Political will to deport people who having been living in this Country illegally for years, None,Nada and their NEVER will be.Second, you can't 'beef up' the border enough to do squat, it's impossible.Third there really isn't any sympathy for a guy who just crossed the border yesterday to be sent back home. Finally that guy who just crossed the border, will be established ten years from now, and then WILL then have sympathy and will not be removed.

Answer;? Put a ceiling on the problem, by granting some sort of Legal Status to people who are already here so that you can separate them from the new arrivals, otherwise the number of 'untouchables' grows every year.

Hey there King, try moving to Mexico and see what happens. Strange that Mexico can enforce their border security but the USA can't.

Here's Mexico's border enforcement:

You're not in my cartel? You're gone.

I have no idea if you are a democrat or a suicidal repub. Fences can work. Ask the Israelis.

Rubiobama's amnesty spells the end of the GOP and the country.

The irony is that the people who say it is not possible for the government to control illegal aliens have full faith that the same government can control guns, which logistically is a much tougher task. Immigration seems the rare issue that liberals don't want the government to control; in just about everything else they claim there is not enough government control. George Orwell was well ahead of his time.

Agreed!

Profound.

Insightful comment. What is so difficult about building a wall on the border?

Again, Baracko Mussolini trips out to Vegas. What is it he is doing out there all the time? Picking up his laundered money? Taking a vacation to recover from his vacation?

He is campaigning for the 2014 elections.

He cannot govern because that requires work and compromise.

Obama saw that Republicans were starting to own the discussion on immigration (as flawed as it is), and decided he wouldn't have it. He just had to interject himself in the discussion, so that whatever happens he comes out as the good guy. If this immigration plan becomes law, Obama takes responsibility. If it doesn't, Obama will blame the Republicans again.

And Rubio, touted as a "conservative" darling by many here, is right there with Obama. "Conservatives" have always had a blind spot for these little Statists as support for Santorum, Gingrich, and Cain clearly show.

Want to stop illegal immigration? Go after the Americans that employ them.

Pecos Pete| 1.30.13 @ 8:30AM

And go after the welfare regulations that give them money and services.
