The Spectacle Blog

Thousands of inauguration spectators were let down by a broken public address system and big screen television, sparking a mass walkout in the middle of President Obama’s address.

I was in the back, on the Mall by the Washington Monument, and feedback and problems with the image on the screen—the sound out of sync with the picture—lasted the entire ceremony, making it impossible to follow the proceedings. I literally could not understand the speech.

There were no obvious signs anyone was trying to fix it.

“I guess we’ll just have to watch it later on TV,” said one visitor from Maryland.

The federal government failed. What else is new? Just imagine how much fun we'll have with KingOcare.

Apt metaphor.

A more appropriate title would be: "Government failure - millions of would-be entrepreneurs walk out"

Not a good omen for the Anointed One.

Good Job MC Senator Schemer

Thank goodness they just walked away, period. Now the trash (i.e. soda bottles, fast food containers, diapers, etc.), did it leave with them?

Remember what happened in '09?

Arbiter55| 1.21.13 @ 3:44PM

The speech likely could not be understood even if the video/audio equipment worked correctly.

Headline:

Obama Abandoned When Free Stuff Stops Working!

[As I contemplate that grin on the face of Jackson Adams (someone with the name of two presidential families) in the photo by the blog post, I wonder if he had anything to do with pulling any plus out there].

Too bad they missed out on the Modern 'Gettysburg Address'.

Curtis Rasmussen| 1.21.13 @ 6:55PM

Obama delivered the Ghettoburg address:

A speech where all men are created equal but some are more equal than others. (gays and illegal aliens)

A speech where the downtrodden enslave themselves to the entitlement teat and will vote against their conscience for fear of losing their sack of pennies, bankrupting the country in the process.

A speech where businesses are pressured to limit production to save the environment when there is no hard data that can fully define if global warming exists.

This is the antithesis of the Gettysburg Address, limiting individual freedom through fairness, affirmative action, and environmental control.

Bob Grant| 1.21.13 @ 7:40PM

Snap, Snap!!!

The Gettysburg Address celebrated those who volunteered and gave their lives in an effort to preserve the union and a system of government established of, by and for the people in an effort for greater equality and liberty for all.

Obama’s speech celebrated himself, and demanded that all come together to take property from others unequally for the benefit of those who supported him.

say 'bingo', buddy!

Tina B| 1.22.13 @ 9:36AM

Curtis, you should have written the speech. Well said and succinctly, God bless you, Sir.

spike59| 1.22.13 @ 5:37AM

If you listened to the Inauguration speech, Queenofthenuts, you ALSO missed out on a 'second Gettysburg Address'...even the reliably ObaMao-worshiping Dana Milbank of "Pravda on the Potomac" (WaPo) called it a 'leftover campaign speech'...'pedestrian rhetoric and tough words for his opponents'...Milbank concluded: 'we live in an era of diminished oratory.'

Tina B| 1.22.13 @ 9:40AM

Awwwwhhh. Ain't that a shame. Diminished oratory from a man who was elected by idiots madly in love with his oratory. Now they can't even hear him speak, and if they did, it wasn't worth it. Lincoln Part Deux no longer.

Tina B| 1.22.13 @ 10:38AM

Inspired by o's techno failure. Hardly had to change a thing. Somebody was as po'd about something as I was with that sham of an event yesterday. I found I could only read entries by others at the Inauguration Analogy Contest entry site and my creativity had flown. I has barely returned but I share with you anyway:
Can you tell me, tell me, friend, just exactly where you've  been?
Is that so much to ask? The MSM can't handle the task.
You seem really sure 'bout something I don't know,
But if it's what I think is really so,
Your wasted words already been heard, are you really God, yes or no?

Well, all day and half the night you're dancin' round lookin' such a fright.
Is it me or is it you? I've made a wager and I know you lose.
Time's gone, looks like Rome is 'bout to fall,
When it's burning, you'll be at the ball
Your wasted words so absurd, are you really Satan, yes or no?

Well, I ain't no saint and you sure as hell ain't no savior,
It's been 5 long years of watchin' your behavior.
That was then, this is now, don't ask us to follow
'cause Bama every word rings hollow.
Pass more laws to take our liberty,
Finally cross that line and you will see
Your wasted words will never be heard, go on home baby and watch it on TV.

Weekday newscast specialty, you know what I'm talkin' 'bout now,
By the way, this song's for you, sincerely, me.

more like "Lincoln Part Duh"

Bob Grant| 1.21.13 @ 4:49PM

Sheila Jackson Lee (someone with the name of both a presidential family and Confederate General) would be 'gettin' all up in his grill' should that occur.

Would he be able to fend off an irate Jackson Lee?

spike59| 1.22.13 @ 5:38AM

all he needs to do throw a bacon double cheeseburger at her feet and slip away while she's scarfing it down on all fours

Bob Grant| 1.22.13 @ 10:22AM

Hot Foot it back to the Jeep while she's occupied.

3 years, 365 days left (2016 is a leap year). Gold should be over $3000.00 an ounce by then, silver at $150.00

c. j. acworth| 1.22.13 @ 9:13AM

You think so? I just bought about $12k in silver, pre-'65 coins. I don't know whether to hope you're right, or dread the economic consequenses of the currency collapse that that implies.
