‘Cold, Dead Fingers’

Uh, Mr. Obama…. no. Just no. Never. Not from any legal gun owners, wherever they may be — which information, by the way, absent a felony on their records, is none of your business whatsoever.

We do not abide tyrants in this country. Guns do not get outlawed by executive order.

Sic Semper Tyranis Quin. See if you can put up the Utube link of Charleton Heston holding up the musket and calling out " From my cold dead hands."

Statements from the White House and much of the media makes this nation seem much more of a dictatorship than a democratic republic. We are supposed to be a "rule of law" nation. Increasingly, over the years, American government has become lawless and corrupt.

spike59| 1.10.13 @ 5:35AM

the quote "behind every blade of grass, there would be a gun" comes to mind...they can TRY, at their own peril; but i doubt even ObaMao is dumb enough to make the atempt

Quartermaster| 1.10.13 @ 8:34PM

Yamamoto said "There would be rifle behind every blade of grass." The old Admiral knew whereof he spoke since he had been Naval Attache here and traveled the country extensively. It would be the same if Obama tried to take them by EO, and the same if Congress tried it.

Frankly, I think the left is trying to foment a civil war, and no the illegal Lincoln's war type of "civil war." An out and out civil war where the winner gets DC type of civil war. The south wanted nothing to do with the district of corruption, and we have now seen what the result of Lincoln's war is. The south was right to leave.

soljerblue| 1.12.13 @ 11:13PM

I don't know if he's dumb enough, but I believe he's arrogant enough. To try.

Molon labe!

Good one! Thanks!

Quartermaster| 1.10.13 @ 8:35PM

Right along with most Dimocrats and their office holders.

fmm| 1.10.13 @ 8:46AM

Executive orders are only legal when they deal with administrative activities of the executive branch. They can not be used to legislate, make laws, or overturns laws or the constitution. Time someone in congress stood up instead of cowering behind their mothers skirts.

Minuteman78| 1.10.13 @ 11:02AM

Legal? Legal? (Channeling best impersonation of Jim Mora's infamous "Playoffs?" rant...)

Since when did this Anti-American, sociopathic, Marxist Muslim ever care if anything was legal?

OregonBuzz| 1.10.13 @ 8:59AM

HOORAH!!!

Pecos Pete| 1.10.13 @ 10:15AM

Quin: You are back in my good graces. Not that you were ever very far from them in any event.

My weapons are mine and the government can't have them. My weapons include, but are not limited to: guns, knives, screw drivers, mallets, hammers, shovels, axes, string, rope, rocks, skillets, propane canisters, electricity, gasoline, cars, my hands and feet. The government can have my ex-wives.

I'd have included very large air planes, but I don't own one.

JP| 1.10.13 @ 10:31AM

"We do not abide tyrants in this country. Guns do not get outlawed by executive order."

Smokes and coal are not outlawed either. Our government at work.

Occam's Tool| 1.10.13 @ 11:37AM

I concur. Obama is overreaching.

A brief editorial note: from here on in, I will significantly mute my criticisms of Senator Al Franken. I promised him in a letter that if he would support more Mental Health Care for the potentially Violent Mentally Ill, that I would donate to his campaign and support him.

He's done just that. A deal is a deal. No more criticism of Al. But Reid, Pelosi, Obama is fair game.

RJ| 1.10.13 @ 2:23PM

This is depressing. Franken was worthy of criticism, but because he supports one government program you believe in, you will support him regardless of everything else that he does. I have heard it before and it is a major reason why the American public has not been able to keep government within its constitutional authority.

Occam's Tool| 1.10.13 @ 5:45PM

RJ: I MADE a promise in a letter. My word is my bond. He is worthy of criticism, but he did do one glorious act with this.

I work as a psychiatrist running a Mental Hospital. Not being assaulted is an existential issue.

RJ| 1.10.13 @ 6:53PM

The making of the promise, not the keeping of it illustrates why efforts to limit government fail. It is similar to Congressional log-rolling which goes on everyday, in every bill. I certainly don't mean to be critical of you, but when even limited government conservatives fall prey to the dilemma, it shows how difficult it will be to do more than occasionally cancel a program every now and then.

Quartermaster| 1.10.13 @ 8:38PM

Hey, the Tool is a fool. I've been posting that for awhile. Of course, every one's pet issue is an existential thing. Mine is medium well Rib Eye, but I don't expect I'll donate anything to a Dimocrat fool like Franken just because he subsidizes Golden Corral.

Like said, the Tool is a faux conservative and he's now admitted it to the world. What an idiot.

Tom Kyba| 1.10.13 @ 12:10PM

Quinn, I believe you meant "at one time we did not abide tyrants in this country".

Marco2| 1.10.13 @ 4:35PM

Of the 100,000,000 plus gunowners in this country, I believe that some will shoot the grabbers down when they come to confiscate. Does anybody have an idea as to how many resisters there might be?

Quartermaster| 1.10.13 @ 8:39PM

If it were just 1% FedGov will have dug its own grave.

N8tivTxn| 1.10.13 @ 4:46PM

Why do Republicrats accept the Leftist argument that illegal aliens cannot be deported en masse, because the undertaking is logistically and ethically impossible, but find it in their collective psyche to accept - and I predict will soon begin promoting the idea that American citizen's firearms, of a certain (yet to be determined) classification can be surrendered, or confiscated, legally?

Oldefarte| 1.10.13 @ 8:27PM

This is great and exactly the result of 11/6/12 [and 11/4/08]. Gun owners, are you proud of yourselves? Oh he ain't so bad, right? Got to have that minority POTUS re-elected, huh? American Jews [the 86% and the 69% of the above], how bout his nomination of a anti-Jewish lobby politician for Secty of Defense [maybe he can give more arms supplies to Brother Morsi etc]? HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN.....!!!!

In Frogland, quite a few LE members would have no problem disarming citizens. I would never do such a thing and a lot of my buddies think likewise. A captain and I were talking about some people we trained with and all of a sudden he says : "That guy? Forget it! No porn DVD's and no illegal guns... You just can't trust him." I started to laugh: "What kind of criteria is this? Are you serious?" "Dead serious! What makes him tick is not what makes us tick. Wanna get in a mission with an unpredictable guy?"
Come to think of it, he may have a point.

COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER !!
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of ...the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. Continued below.

The following is a portion of the transcript:
"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death.

Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

- Darrell Scott

RJ| 1.11.13 @ 2:15AM

Thanks for posting this information, Jim and God Bless Darrell Scott and his children. Congress isn't used to this kind of testimony. They need to hear it.
