At CFIF,
I explain why we’re all still better off, from a tax standpoint
(obviously not from a spending standpoint) than we were at the turn
of the millennium. It’s also true that we are almsot no worse off
on spending than we were a week ago.
Here’s the truth:
Surely, then, you would be shocked to learn that every
single American would emerge from the battle paying lower taxes on
comparable income than they were paying in 2000. Every
single one.
For every income level below the top marginal rate, the lower
taxes would be substantial. Those formerly paying 31 percent would
pay 28 percent. Those in 2000 paying 28 percent would pay 25. Many
of those who were paying 15 percent would pay 10.
And the top rate, both in 2000 and in 2013 set at 39.6 percent,
now will not kick in until a much higher income than in 2000.
There’s also this, which is probably the most important thing of
all:
Finally, the two intervening months give conservatives time to
regroup and refurbish tactics and communications, without threat of
an automatic tax hike. Those two months may be the best benefit of
the whole deal.
As I will explain in the coming week or so, not only is there
leverage for conservatives going forward, but there are strategies
and tactics that can be used to make the most of that leverage. I
will be outlining some of those strategies and tactics.
We’ve pulled off a tactical retreat to a new, better terrain.
Shame on us if we don’t use the new terrain effectively.

Come on, Quin. A tax discussion that considers only marginal income tax rates without examining deductions, credits, capital gains, etc? What are you, a Leftist?
fmm| 1.3.13 @ 12:44PM
So you use tax rates pre-Bush reductions as a measure? Man you have gone over the edge.
And the next two months will give the GOP establishment time to figure out how they can gain from increased spending instead of figuring ways to reduce spending and help the country survive. You must be on the take as well to write such tripe.

Quin: You can glue feathers on a pig, but that doesn't make the pig a bird.
Come back in a couple of months after the national debt cap has been increased and spending continues above revenue.

The late Clinton years saw the highest percentage of GDP confiscated by the government in US history:

You waste your time writing articles like this. When push comes to shove the Republicans will cave again. The election of Boehner as House Speaker today proves this will happen. Only a conservative third party will end this DC Kabuki.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 2:45PM
Indeed.
This has always been and will continue to be about destroying, silencing, and marginalizing the conservatives whether it be the Tea party movement of late or the previous conservative uprisings throughout the twentieth century.
We must face this fact and acknowledge that our society is run and ruled by one elite that has given up on classical liberalism and the tenets and beliefs of our founding fathers. Most people are unwilling to face this and the additional reality that it has been undergoing a re-engineering effort for nearly a century. The re-engineering has been conducted on two fronts- the economic and the social. The Leftist reveal this fact on this site when they taunt the conservative posters about their worldview and values as being archaic or obsolete.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 2:52PM
There are plenty of so-called conservatives and pretenders who secretly and privately know all of this is true and knowingly and unknowingly collude with these forces or capitulate under the strain and pressures to conform.
What is really at stake here is not a philosophy, conservatism or the classical liberalism of the founding fathers will continue to exist at least in the form of writings in old books and in libraries. What is at stake is the systems, the culture, and the institutions that have all been corrupted and transformed into the new "progressive" ideal and order.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 3:00PM
This process of deconstruction of every aspect of this society from the family structure to our education systems, our entertainment and media systems to our rules and regulations controlling and structuring our economy has been deliberate, planned, and carried out in incremental steps.
The reason for this incremental and slow rot? Because our founding fathers set down some very powerful cultural, religious, economic, political, and institutional foundations that would be nearly impossible to overthrow in one revolutionary strike or movement. The second amendment is one in particular that is the most threatening and difficult for them.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 3:07PM
Thus the need for incremental deconstruction as to not awaken the masses and risk agitation that may lead to backlash.
So, this, as far as I am concerned, is our last chance because the program is nearly complete.
Either wake and fight for your Republic and the remnants that still exist or capitulate.
Quin, like many others still lives in his own world where everything still seems like it is just one election away from being fixed by picking the right candidate or making the correct political decision or compromise. This is not the real world.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 3:16PM
Action must be taken now. Every conservative, true conservative or freedom loving American, must wake up to the real world and become activist.
One of these necessary actions might be to start a third party and political movement or it might involve taking back control of the current party.
There is no doubt talk is cheap these days and what is now required is action on multitude of fronts and types. Action that will be risky and involve sacrifice, perhaps not being liked and not getting interviews on radio stations, possible appointments in DC, or alienating your fellow writers on the web magazine to which you contribute. Telling the truth is sometimes the hardest thing to do.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 3:28PM
Quin,
Here’s the truth: The whole truth and nothing but the Truth.
Payroll taxes are coming and every American will see a 2 percent decrease in their income.
More layoffs will happen as producers, particularly small business will be hit with more taxes. Spending will continue unabated.
The rich, the cronies, and those that have their wealth in assets will sacrifice nothing.
Those attempting to become wealthy by income means will be straddled with higher taxes.
Obamacare kicks in with its taxes, penalties, restrictions, and the eventual collapse of many benefit packages whereby corporations drop them and accept the penalty taxes. Food prices and consumer goods continue to rise, indirect taxation via companies passing the new tax expenses down the chain. The dollar continues to fall in value, more indirect taxation.
The biggest of all....Obama wins the propaganda war and convinces the public that this is all the fault of conservatives, that this is nothing but a situation of inequality of wealth and NOT enough government intervention.
Occam's Tool| 1.4.13 @ 6:24PM
No, Simon: people who earn less than $113,000 will see a 2% increase in their income tax.
Simon Templar| 1.3.13 @ 3:38PM
Oh yeah, forgot to mention and additional truth, Boner gets another term to capitulate, you defend him, and rationalize what is happening, I protest and write something about it, the trolls come out of the wood work to taunt and mock, half of the people here do not have a clue as to what I am saying, and we then get a second chance to go around this insane merry go round once more. Nothing learned, nothing changed, nothing new.
Redfray | 1.3.13 @ 5:36PM
The terrifying thing about taxes is the people who spend the money. Same thing happens in a family, if the person handling the money is greedy, or has no consideration for the welfare of the family. I hear this same story about illegals being here in America, "we are all illegals". Just one problem with that statement. Those who came over before welfare had to work or not eat. Now, our tax moneies is being used to bring them in, and the law argue for their rights. Sorry to say Mr. writer, you want us to be slaves, and you call it good for us. How long will America continue to exist with this type of thinking?
Occam's Tool| 1.4.13 @ 6:23PM
Taxes are being raised in the middle of a recession. That's not good, as Joe Dolce would put it...
