General Norman Schwarzkopf, best known for overseeing the
prosecution of the 1991 Gulf War as the head of U.S. Central
Command,
has died of complications of pneumonia. He was 78.
A graduate of West Point, Schwarzkopf did two tours of duty in
Vietnam and served with distinction earning three Silver Stars,
three Distinguished Service Medals, a Bronze Star and a Purple
Heart. One of those Silver Stars was earned rescuing several
soldiers under his command from a mine field.
Schwarzkopf gradually rose through military ranks during the 70s
and 80s when President Reagan appointed him to head up CENTCOM in
November 1988. He would become a household name during Operation
Desert Storm and earned the nickname “Stormin’ Norman” as U.S. and
Coalition forces drove the Iraqi Army out of Kuwait. He would
retire from military duty the following year eschewing calls for
him to run for elected office.
At the time, there was criticism for not removing Saddam Hussein
from power and allowing the Iraqi Army to put down the Shia
uprisings. For his part, Schwarzkopf had mixed feelings about the
War in Iraq. Prior to the invasion, he did wonder if the war would
have been necessary had different decisions been made in 1991.
Sadly, we will never know.
I leave you with Schwarzkopf explaining the meaning
of leadership.

"Stormin Norman" may have been the last of the great American military figures. Integrity, courage and class showered from him. A little bit of Patton, Bradley, MacArthur, and some John Wayne too. Of much more substance than his windbag prevaricating boss, the empty suit who always tried to bask in Norman's glory.
Well done general! May God rest your soul.
Too bad that Petraeus let himself be set up by Obama, but you deal with the devil at your own risk.

Rest in Peace, General Schwarzkopf. We are indebted to you for your inspired leadership and dedicated service to the nation. God Bless you.

General Schwartzkopf was a fine example of a leader. I hope that he will Rest In Peace, and that others will be called to follow his example.

A true warrior and the personification of a leader. The only criticism I have is that his brilliance masked Colin Powell's incompetence.

You added concisely what I was also thinking.

General Norman S also served his country and the military by opposing Algore's attempt to disenfranchise the votes of the military in Florida in 2000.
Powell, on the other hand, owes his military career to Bush 41 and 43, which he turned into a lucrative book and speaking tour, and repaid the Reps by voting for O simply because of O's skin color. It was especially low class for him to support O against a war hero like McCain.

Schwarzkopf was a true warrior general unlike that pencil pushing bootlicker Strollin' Colin Powell. He served his country with honor and was loyal to his superiors. Unlike Strollin' Colin. RIP

Crassus: are you referring to that fine Gen'ral, Colon Bowel?
Schwarzkopf did his job so well, he made it look simple. Of a par with Scipio Africanus.

RIP General! I always had tremendous sympathy for him from having to take military orders from Colin Powel, since Stormin probably had forgotten more about military matters than Powell could have even known!!!!
Oldefarte| 12.29.12 @ 3:02PM
Personality-wise, Col. Allen West reminds me very much of the General, in that they both are tough as nails and there is simply no BS with either of them. They say what they mean and mean what they say. A rare trait indeed!!!!!
Oldefarte| 12.29.12 @ 3:06PM
Above applies to Schwarzkopf, not Powell.....but anyone reading same would understand my meaning!!!!
C Bowen | 12.29.12 @ 5:56PM
Schwarzkopf refused opportunities to enter politics while Allen West was one of four Republicans to vote against defunding Obamacare- what are you talking about?
Oldefarte| 12.31.12 @ 12:42PM
I was referring to only/strictly his non BS character/personnae in comparison to Schwarzkoph, and not his voting record. If someone says that they admire Ronald Reagan, are you then going to critisize his participation for years inside the Democratic Party? Which would your prefer to be in the WH right now, Allen West or Barack Obama? Use common sense and logical reason!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaron-please post obit on 103 year old Italian Nobelist who just died, if you would.
