As widely expected, following the withdrawal of UN Ambassador
Susan Rice, President Obama has nominated John Kerry to succeed
Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.
While it’s good that Daniel Halper of The Weekly
Standard reminds us of
Kerry’s chuminess with Syria’s Bashar Assad as well as
his investments with companies believed to be doing business with
Iran, I cannot conceive of a scenario in which the Democrat
controlled Senate doesn’t confirm their colleague from
Massachusetts by a wide margin.

Kerry's nomination as Secretary of State merely continues a long run of losers in that position. Not since James Baker, who served in Bush the Elder's administration, has there been a Secretary of State who even remotely approached competence. Warren Christopher, Madelyn Albright, Strollin' Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Hillary Clinton, and now John F. Kerry (who served in Vietnam)--losers all.
RJ| 12.21.12 @ 6:52PM
I agree that the Secretaries of State whom you mention were poorly qualified, however I still want at least one Senator on the Foreign Relations Committee to hold Kerry accountable for his last Congressional testimony, wherein he slandered his fellow veterans serving in Vietnam. Kerry's pertinent portions of Kerry's testimony should be read back and he should be asked if he had personal knowledge of the charges he leveled. It has been many years, but he shouldn't be able to skate by any more. He is unqualified and unworthy of the post.
Occam's Tool| 12.21.12 @ 4:16PM
Wow. I didn't see that one coming.
Just another "stuporstar" (not misspelled) in an Administration filled with neurosyphilites. 4 more years of hell.
At least he will be good for my gold and silver coins' prices. I miss George Schultz.

I saw it coming a million miles away. Just a sampling: When I was doing relief work just across the Honduras/Nicaraguan border, that individual visited "Comandante" Daniel Ortega, head of the Sandinista Government, which had been butchering his opposition. Such included defenseless Miskito Indians, some of whom, as well as others, we helped after they managed to evade the Sandinistas and cross the border into Honduras. They were so traumatized, if not terrified, that upon hearing, now matter how distant, the sound of flying helicopters, the poor souls ran frantically into the woods, seeking refuge, lest they, as they had before, be strafed by Russian attack helicopters being flown by communist Cuban pilots, etc.
I know that you and others don't need convincing, but for those others who may not know, here are couple of stories which clearly delineate the stellar character of said nominee and Viet Nam War hero:

Some may ask why I'm so strident against this man, or for that matter anyone else like him. Simply put, this man will not advance America's interests, and will more likely than not, serve to extend a lifeline, at American taxpayer expense, to the Cuban communist dictatorship--no matter what he and his supporters say.

He should fit right in with President Santa Claus's agenda.
RCV| 12.22.12 @ 7:05PM
The GOP can thank itself for Kerry. Susan Rice would have been a far more capable Secretary.
Dai Alanye | 12.24.12 @ 10:29AM
It's difficult to believe anyone could be worse than Susan Rice, who seems to have matriculated at the Chamberlain school of foreign policy, never having met an ally she couldn't abandon. But Kerry is certain to give it a try--after all, he still has "The Hat."
Occam's Tool| 12.25.12 @ 11:49AM
Sarcasm. I knew Lurch was coming.
7-08| 12.21.12 @ 4:19PM
Let him serve four months and then put a band aid on his ass. (Just long enough to get him to resign his senate seat.)
Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 12.21.12 @ 5:46PM
It's ironic that we are consorting with Sunni Islamist terrorists within the F.S.A. right now and the neocons in the Weekly Standard aren't worried about that instead they are worried about Kerry's supposed "chuminess" with Bashar al Assad. I know that my defense of Bashar al Assad and his Baathist Syrian government is becoming a broken record by now on American Spectator but when Assad falls and Christians, Alawites, Druze, Kurds and Jews are driven from their homes and slaughtered by the supposedly democracy loving Free Syrian Army that I have been warning all of you from the very beginning that this was going to happen if the West continued to push for regime change in Syria.
Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 12.21.12 @ 5:51PM
With that said I cannot see Clinton stepping down as Secretary of State as anything less than a good thing. Like Clinton's Madeleine Albright and Bush's Condeleeza Rice, Hillary Clinton is a "warmonger". Michael Savage has wisely pointed out in the past that women in government won't exactly mean a "softer" government. If these women I mentioned above are any indication of what its like with women in power then God help us all when one becomes President.
Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 12.21.12 @ 5:56PM
I cannot forget Hillary Clinton laughing and rejoicing upon news of the rather sadistic torture and execution of Muamar Ghaddafi in Libya.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DXDU48RHLU
What a sick b@tch she probably laughed as her intern sodomizing husband dropped bombs on Serbian orphanages too.
Paul McGrath| 12.21.12 @ 8:46PM
I would agree with you, for once, Dimitry. One may exult, privately, over the death of one's enemy. But in public, the Secretary of State of the United States of America should display a more dignified tone.
She's a pig.
RJ| 12.23.12 @ 4:31PM
I agree too. While Ghaddafi was a dictator with a violent past, mob violence is a dangerous and ugly event. I was troubled watching the video of his tortured death. It weakens the quest for a civilized society and to think that a US Secretary of State celebrates such conduct is truly disturbing. It is evidence of her lack of humanity and unworthiness to hold public office.
C Bowen | 12.21.12 @ 5:53PM
Kerry was an early supporter, dating back to 1998, of invading Iraq over scary claims that Iraq had ill-defined "WMDs."
As Republicans participated in this globalist crime, they will not put up any resistance to Kerry.
That Weakly Standards sorts are criticizing Kerry for not be pro-radical Islam enough is just Bizzaro World.
Dai Alanye | 12.24.12 @ 10:36AM
For a nation without WMDs Iraq had a remarkable number of chemical-protective suits, vast doses of nerve gas antidote, numerous mobile "weather vehicles," and huge hidden stores of "insecticide." Let's not buy into the cover stories offered by the ostriches in both media and government.
C Bowen | 12.28.12 @ 4:59PM
The US and the West sold Saddam surplus--that isn't a shock.
Wait--you aren't seriously one of those WMD-dead enders who thinks Saddam's Iraq was really, really scary?
Too funny--are you a soccer mom?

He will probably get the consent of every Senator's vote along with their advice of not to let the door hit him in the ass as he leaves.
Infantryman| 12.23.12 @ 9:11AM
RJ has it right. Also, Kerry should be asked to produce the citations and orders awarding him his medals. If he can't do it, get the Navy to, after all they're the ones who apparently approved his heroic record.
Occam's Tool| 12.23.12 @ 11:47PM
So: Hillary as Morticia, Kerry as Lurch, Obama as Gomez Adams, Susan Rice as Cousin It.
Looking good. (sob)
Marc Jeric| 12.24.12 @ 11:34AM
Kerry - that bloviating gasbag and functional illiterate? That phony self-proclaimed war hero where he jammed his finger in mis-managing a machine gun and then awarded himself a medal? That moron who voted for the war before he voted against it? That creep who married the millions and then bought his yacht from New Zealand because it was cheaper there than in America?
Occam's Tool| 12.24.12 @ 5:35PM
Marc: that was after voting for the luxury tax that helped put American yacht makers out of business.By the way, RCV---Susuan Rice---VERY anti-Israel.
Marc Jeric| 12.25.12 @ 4:23PM
That bloviating gasbag, that phony self-proclaimed war hero who voted for the war before he voted against it, that creep who never work a day in his life but married into the millions - to be our Secretary of State? The traitor who "negotiated" with the North Vietnamese mass murderers in Paris by his lonely self? That traitor who encouraged the communist Sandinistas to take firm control by executing the "contras"? Those "contras" named so by our own communists - instead of freedom fighters as Reagan called them?
