Senator, have you had enough of the B. S.?

fmm| 12.6.12 @ 12:14PM

Read his first book.

I can't blame him. Constantly hitting your head against the wall can be tiresome...and painful.

The Senate. A completely dysfunctional body where it's leader is Harry Reid and it's members include the likes of Al Franken, it has to seem at times like being in The Rabbit Hole.

Bob K| 12.6.12 @ 11:25AM

According to the HF news release he stated 3 years ago that he was leaving the Senate in April of 2013.

Bob K| 12.6.12 @ 11:27AM

My bad!!! I read that wrong. It is Feulner who is retiring.

Jack in Wi| 12.6.12 @ 11:28AM

Is their any opposition left in the Senate or has it all been co-opted?

RCV| 12.6.12 @ 11:50AM

It's good to see Congress cleansed of the Tea Party obstructionists, one by one. Perhaps it can soon return to a functional status.

fmm| 12.6.12 @ 12:14PM

LOL

Bob Grant| 12.6.12 @ 4:44PM

RCV,

Please define "obstructionists".

CJW| 12.6.12 @ 4:57PM

Anyone who does not agree with the Dems to raise taxes and increase spending.

DeMint has made clear for some time that he would serve no more than two terms. He will be missed, but the true conservatives are not careerists in government, unlike the Democrats and Rinos. Unfortunately, Tom Coburn is in the final two years of his last term. The important thing is the electorate. Both South Carolina and Oklahoma will most likely send able replacements to carry on the cause for limited government and Jim DeMint will be across the street directing the Heritage Foundation for many years. He is likely to have more freedom of movement in his new role. His influence on the American political scene will not be diminished by this move.

RCV:

DeMint was a principled and decent adversary. You are incorrect.

RCV| 12.6.12 @ 12:19PM

I never said he was not a man of principle and decency.

For conservatives, I think DeMint can probably serve a better role at Heritage. The right wing of the GOP identified with DeMint has some deep strategic thinking to do about whether to remain in the GOPas is, seek to transform it into something different, or establish some new political vehicle for their program.

From my perspective as an outsider, the right wing of the GOP missed a golden opportunity in 2012 to field a candidate and capture the GOP nomination. That failure stemmed from a lack of coordinated leadership at the beginning of the GOP primaries. Perhaps DeMint can fill that role better from the outside. But in 2012, he basically punted when he could have taken the initiative to organize conservatives, who clearly had a majority within the GOP but failed to utilize that advantage.

DRed| 12.6.12 @ 3:12PM

A lack of coordinated leadership and a total dearth of candidates who weren't idiots. Also, a lack of ideas that appeal to a majority of Americans.

DeMint is cashing in. Good for him.

Dai Alanye | 12.7.12 @ 5:17AM

I agreed. There was Santorum, but the idiots favored Romney. Unless DRed, er...

Don't take this personally, any of you Romney rollovers.

Quin's favorite FauxCon doesn't like it:

That would be Jennifer Rubin, although I'm not sure Quin respects her all that much.

Rubin's key thought is, "[DeMint] has contributed more than any current senator to the dysfunction of that body."

One might get the impression Rubin is unaware of senators named Reid, Schumer and Durbin, among quite a few others. Her main problem, shared by pseudo-Republican columnists like Brooks and Noonan, is her belief that she's the brightest bulb in the chandelier of a decrepit ballroom.

JmsA| 12.6.12 @ 6:25PM

I hear Sen. DeMint is recommending Tim Scott, an African-American, (Tea Party) House Member, be appointed as his replacement.
