A few hours after criticizing Israel for proposed new
settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton said Israelis lacked generosity and empathy towards
the Palestinians.
Speaking at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy on Friday
(which is sponsored by the Brookings Institution), Hillary
said:
I’m not making excuses for the missed opportunities of the
Israelis, or their lack of generosity, the lack of empathy that I
think goes hand in hand with suspicion. So, yes, there is more that
the Israelis need to do to demonstrate that they do understand the
pain of an oppressed people in their minds.
Oh, I see. If only Israelis had generosity and empathy towards
the Palestinians they wouldn’t be naming streets, schools and
soccer fields after suicide bombers.
There are plenty of Israelis who are not only generous and
emphatic towards the Palestinians but are downright sympathetic.
The same cannot be said of the Palestinians. If a Palestinian is
perceived as having generosity or empathy towards Israel, he is
viewed as a “collaborator” and is executed.
I also seem to remember that Israel offered the Palestinians the
West Bank and East Jerusalem at Camp David only to have Yasser
Arafat walk away. That happened under Bill Clinton’s watch by
the way. I guess Hillary was too busy campaigning for the Jewish
vote in New York to notice.

How is she any different from Obama on this? After all she is his Secretary of State and works at his bidding and I think he got about 65% of the Jewish vote.
Jack in Wi| 12.3.12 @ 12:59PM
Obama got 70% of the Jewish vote ethis time, 78% last time. He also got a huge amount of his campaign money from Jews. The same can be said of the Clintons. Republicans get nothing from supporting the Apartheid ttate. It also seems that Hillary now, retiring, is finally telling her friends some truth. It would seem most American Jews agree with her.
RCV| 12.3.12 @ 1:35PM
... and he got the Jewish vote with good reason. When Israel defended itself against Hamas, Obama steadfastly backed their right to do so. When the Palestinian statehood issue came up in the UN, the US was the ONLY major power to stand with Israel.
If Goldstein wants to continue to try to drive a wedge between the US and Israel, he's welcome to do so. But no one who counts is listening.
Occam's Tool| 12.3.12 @ 1:48PM
I doubt that AIPAC is happy with this move. Hillary has a long history of shivving the Israelis.
Occam's Tool| 12.3.12 @ 1:49PM
The Israelis treat Palestinians in their hospitals who then go back and attempt to kill those MDs and Nurses.
The Palis are hated by their fellow Arabs for a reason.
Oldefarte| 12.3.12 @ 3:23PM
American Jews now have no one to blame but themselves on this issue, since they repeated their stupidity in voting in favor of this POTUS by 69% [and by 86% in 2008]. They and everyone else who voted for his re-election effectively signed Israel's death warrant. I mean no ill will to anyone of the Jewish faith by this, but Forrest Gump was correct concerning this issue, okay??????
RCV| 12.3.12 @ 4:18PM
"Effectively signed Israel's death warrant." What BS. The US has just stood as firmly with Israel as any administration has. Every US administration has publicly opposed further settlement activity in the West Bank. The US has Israel's back, and Israel knows it.

"The US has Israel's back, and Israel knows it."

Israel also knows that its back is where Shrillary and ObaMao are most likely to stick the shiv...

You stupid POS, try reading and comprehending facts. Egypt, Syria, Lybia, Iran.....Muslim Brotherhood....encirclement of Israel.....Benghazi....you dumb AH, WAKE UP!!!!!!
Occam's Tool| 12.4.12 @ 11:48AM
If American Jews would vote Republican once in a while, they would need to be actively COURTED.
As it is, Obama treats Jews like he treats Blacks, only worse.
Oldefarte| 12.4.12 @ 1:28PM
"COURTED"? If Israel becomes Holocost II because of the lack of courtship, then what??????

Maybe if you put two and two together Mr. Goldstein you would discover that the root of Palestinian hatred towards Israel is found in practices like expanding Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. In 1948 over 700,000 non-Jewish Palestinians fled or were driven from their homes in what is now the state of Israel. At least half of those Palestinians were Christian. Out of curiosity was Gaza offered to the Palestinians at Camp David as well or no?
Occam's Tool| 12.3.12 @ 5:51PM
Gaza is under Palestinian control, Dmitry. Cut down on the Vodka.
Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 12.3.12 @ 10:59PM
Was it under Palestinian control during the Camp David accords though?
Occam's Tool| 12.4.12 @ 11:47AM
That was a discussion between Egypt and Israel, sans Palestinians.
Ehud Barak gave Arafat a GREAT offer, including East Jerusalem, and he turned it down.
Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 12.4.12 @ 2:55PM
Arafat should have taken the offer, but I think you'll probably have to wait at least another 50 to 100 years for the Palestinians to even half heartily relinquish their claims in Israel itself and accept a two state solution. As long as there are Palestinians who were alive in 1948 I can't see them accepting a two state solution.
spike59| 12.4.12 @ 5:56AM
"Gaza is under Palestinian control,"
------------------------------------
which explains why Gaza is such a hell-hole
Occam's Tool| 12.4.12 @ 11:47AM
Yup.
Cpm| 12.4.12 @ 8:38PM
In 1948 all those 'palestinians' went on vacation, expecting the surrounding Arab armies of Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt to annihilate the Jews for them so they could return home to reclaim not only what they left behind but also the newly available kibbutzim, but unfortunately for them the IDF had other ideas. So the root of their hatred towards Israel is based in their own stupidity for not accepting the 2 state solution when Israel did in 1948, instead relying on the promise of another Holocaust by real Arab states that never materialized.
wombat1| 12.3.12 @ 7:50PM
Perhaps Mme. Clinton's opinions on this subject might be given some weight.
At least as regards other Americans, there is no greater expert on lack of empathy and generosity, and riding roughshod over everybody else.

one wonders what "Ms Empathy" is saying in private...

Jews know nothing about the suffering of oppressed people? It's hard to be generous or empathetic with religious fanatics that want to murder you and everybody you know.
