The Spectacle Blog

During a press conference in Washington yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton praised the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad for “their real achievements on the ground” citing the safe streets of the West Bank, the overhaul of government institutions and helping to enhance Israel’s security.

Clinton then berated Israel for announcing new settlement construction stating such activities “set back the cause of a negotiated peace.” I suppose Hillary thinks Palestinian unilateral declarations of independence are just fine and dandy.

Well, last I checked Palestinians were throwing stones at PA buildings because of high prices, low wages and government corruption.

The PA will never achieve anything tangible until it stops naming its schools after suicide bombers, refrains from using its official newspaper from printing cartoons insinuating that Israel poisoned Yasser Arafat, and using its state run TV to air music videos calling Israel “the enemy” and a “snake”.

There was, of course, a time when Hillary Clinton spoke out against the “hateful rhetoric” of the Palestinians. But alas that time has long since passed.

If Hillary was still in the U.S. Senate, and in need of New York Jewish votes, I bet she would be talking out of the other side of her mouth.

Oh, PA means Palestinian Authority. For a minute there I thought she was praising Pennsylvania.

It is interesting that she is blasting Israel. It could be that she is signaling that she won't be running for President in 2016.

From your mouth to God's ears. However, Hillary is a very ambitious woman.

Where is Jack & Clint? I am waiting for their posts!

Don't worry, Hillary will run in 2016 and the New York Jews will vote for her too. There is a 'D' after her name, that is all that matters.

Clint has not been here for many months. You make a good point Republicans get nothing by backing Israel. Most Jews are liberal and supply the Democrat party with a majority of their financing. Israel has been a tremendous waste of time, blood and money for the USA. They refuse to live in peace with their neighbors and refuse to get off welfare. Mr. Goldstein what do you propose to do with the non Jewish majority in Israel Palistine, murder them or expell them? I prefer a one state solution like South Africa with equal rights for all. If not that at least a decent 2 state solution. The world is sick to death of Israel and its racism, terrorism, and warmongering. That is why you got so few votes in the General Assembly the other day.

Hillary is a worthless POS, who has only supported Israel when she needed to for votes in NY State. She is among our worst SecStates ever.

One of the best, actually.

The words "Statecraft" and Hillary Clinton" are rarely uttered in the same sentence or, for that matter, rarely in the same month.

RCV: every day, I think of Galveston bay. I pray you never have to.

RCV| 12.2.12 @ 3:46PM

I pray that none of us ever has to again, Occam. But that does not change my assessment of the tireless and effective job she's done as Secretary of State, an assessment shared by most Americans as her poll numbers indicate. She is likely to be your next President as well.

As for her replacement, if it were up to me, I'd try to convince her husband to accept the post. If he declined, I'd turn to Jon Huntsman.

Hope your Thanksgiving was festive and family-filled, Occam.

Huntsman?

Is this the same Huntsman who dropped out of High School to play in a Rock Band and who later got his GED? I think his Billionaire father then made him go to College and then sent him to China to learn some Chinese and a bit of how the family businesses were run there after which he bought an Ambassadorship for him. After that he moved from California to Utah where his Daddy's money bought the Governorship for him.

Isn't he a Republican too?
