The bottom line is there were 6 million more eligible voters in the 2012 general election as there were in the 2008 general election.
That's 6 million MORE voter-eligible citizens Romney failed to sway.
As the writer of the article mentioned, Romney's baseline should have been GW Bush's total in '04 (62+million votes), not McCain's total in '08(59+million votes).
Anything under 62 million votes should be considered disastrous for Romney and the fact that he'll receive just over 60 million before it's all said and done tells us all we need to know about this year's election.
Romney should bear some burden of blame but most should go to the dwindling ignorance of the electorate, or the ones who choose not to participate in our elections.
Mender| 11.23.12 @ 10:52AM
It's a predictable result of running a poor youth-vote campaign. Republicans died and Democrats turned 18 to replace them.
More than anything else, this makes me certain that the GOP will have to concede social issues (at least to state level) soon to avoid looking very stupid. I'm 24 and most of my friends see gay marriage (or at least federal civil unions) as not just positive, but inevitable.
Bob Grant| 11.23.12 @ 11:08AM
Yea, a 'poor youth-vote campaign'.
obama promises free contraceptives, untenable debt-burdens, civil unions of all sorts, and more competition for ever-dwindling career opportunities via the "Dream Act"
....
Whereas Romney/Ryan promised to get you out of mommy's and and daddy's basement.
The youth now own obama's administration. Good luck with that!
Mender| 11.23.12 @ 11:15AM
You think I'm disagreeing with you? I'm just stating the obvious (and the exit poll results). Romney had much to offer, but culturally he seemed to come from another place to younger voters and I think that made them look at him with suspicion.
Criticize us young'uns all you like for that if you like (heck, I might even say you have a point), but unless the plan is to write America off it's clear that the GOP has some thinking ahead of it.
Bob Grant| 11.23.12 @ 11:27AM
The Youth should have realized as economic freedom goes, so goes all other freedoms.
Perhaps the Youth should have taken a more pragmatic (i.e. adult) approach to selecting our next president.
Water under the bridge now.
It's time to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t (the re-election of obama).
As neither young, nor officially a senior citizen, I'm all ears as to how to move forward.
Simon Templar| 11.23.12 @ 11:49AM
You have some thinking ahead of you. Culture is a hell of lot more than where a man is putting his penis where it does not belong, idiot. When you grow up, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Most of the so-called youth really could care less about these social issues when the rubber meets the road in their late thirties. Your arrogance really is astounding, but to be fair I had the same level of arrogance and believed that everyone over 30 or forty was old and not with it when I was 24.
Hispanic voting blocks in California and most blue states do not share your views on homosexuals and just how 'neat' they are as they have voted down your inevitable. Your whole argument is ridiculous and falsehood. Many of these youth want free education, loans, and jobs, particularly in government if that is available. They vote for the goodies and anyone that they have heard might take that away whether true or not is suspect as you say.
Simon Templar| 11.23.12 @ 11:56AM
Yes, I count you as one of them...despite your protest that you are possible not...
CJW| 11.23.12 @ 12:48PM
Mender
There is no law, or anyone, prohibiting you from living with anyone you want. You can do power of attorney for financial and medical issues with your partner, you can put your partner on you bank accounts, deeds, whatever. This is a phony issue.
So you will be happy that we have gay marriage but a weak economy, with a 16 trillion deficit, and weak national defense?
Bob Grant| 11.23.12 @ 6:35PM
CJW,
Yes, their priorities are straight out of Rome, circa 476.
Yes to gay marriage, who cares to everything else.
Simon Templar| 11.23.12 @ 11:33AM
Sixty mentally disabled people were registered and voted in this past election with the prompting of their caretakers that taught them Obama chants. As much as hundreds of precincts in the swing states had 165 percent voter turnout above registered voters. many states had hundreds and thousands of votes not counted. Dozens of reports of wrongly calibrated voting machines were kicking out fraudulent votes. Some precinct did not have a single vote for the opposition candidate and had more votes than the registered voters living there. Military voters were disenfranchised. Whole counties in Ohio were rigged without a single vote for Romney and fraudulent turnout rates. None of this matters, your comments, your whining, your hopes, your complaints, what you think should have been done or what should have not been said or done, social issues, no social issues, your useful idiot youthful childish pronouncements, your statistics on this or that...
RCV| 11.24.12 @ 11:21PM
Please Simon, identify for us with specificity those precincts that had 165 percent of registered voters cast ballots so that prosecutions can be initiated. And which counties in Ohio had "not a single vote for Romney"? You're one of those people who picks up a "fact" somewhere on the Internet then passes it on like it's Gospel truth.
Simon Templar| 11.25.12 @ 7:07PM
Identifying anything to you would be a waste of my time, as you would deny it, lie about it, or start with the distractions, misdirections, and name calling that you and your ilk do so well. Somewhere on the internet consist of major newspapers and reports on radio from those covering the election and its results. Look them up yourself, but of course you could care less, so stop pretending otherwise. That was rich coming from you as all you have ever done is repeat the "facts" and talking points that your masters have given you. Let us not forget, you are the troll, not me, and frankly you do not belong here as you do not have the slightest interest in learning or listening to ANYTHING ANYONE has written here. Given that, do not respond to my comments. Go play with you commie friends. I have had enough of trying to communicate with liberal bitchatos like yourself. You are not what I consider a fellow American with a different opinion on some matters. You are a domestic enemy of which I have nothing to say and do not fraternize with...You destroyed my nation and my Republic, corrupted the election process and rendered it to no more than a fraudulent exercise in meaninglessness, and have stolen my rights as a free citizen. Let us not mince words any longer.
You want a civil war and you are going to get it.
RCV| 11.26.12 @ 12:02PM
Just as I knew - no facts. And start that civil war: you'll be in the pokey in five minutes. You are truly pathetic, Mr. Templar.
Simon Templar| 11.23.12 @ 11:34AM
How can I get this through the thick skulls?
THEY CHEATED! As long as we allow illegals to vote, do not close our borders, and allow this blatant contempt of our election process, there is no Republic, there is no, 'We the people,' there is no democracy, and there is no winning an election. Those fraudulent votes destroyed the votes of citizens and stole their rights as free Americans. Every single statistical indicator and political fundamental ever developed or spouted by the experts was broken that night, and I mean very one of the dozens. The Fraud lost.
The stupidity that you all are raging about is the fact that you have all accepted this without exercising a single brain cell in questioning any of it. the amazing thing is the GOP and most conservatives do not have the brains or the balls to do anything about it. The demoncrats in 2000 demanded and got the whole state of Florida to recount without batting an eye.
Simon Templar| 11.23.12 @ 11:38AM
Sorry about the typos, typing too fast and with too much anger to be frank...
Oldefarte| 11.23.12 @ 11:47AM
No, Bush, McCain and Romney did NOT UNDERPERFORM in their respective elections. The AMERICAN PEOPLE however did do so on each/all of these major occasions. these politicians did everything within their singular power to present a common sense and rational set of solutions to the problems facing this nation, and were thereafter given the finger by the STUPID snot-nosers, the labor unionist [both private and more importantly municipal] lemmings, the Christian community, etc. As a result of their combined stupidity, this country will now begin by 1/1/13 a rapid decline into poverty, depravity and destruction resembling that of the Roman Empire and more recently the Europeon countries historically embracing governmental socialism. A person[s] or political leader can only do so much to offer their futuristic services in attempting to solve a country's emmense problems, and since a democracy includes the radicals, socialists, Communists, indigents, etc who are bent on getting their FREE STUFF and having the Bain capitalists and working/producing Americans PAY FOR IT, when it evolves into a situation where the former outnumber the latter, then it is nothing these politicians can do to force the dumbazzes of a country to elect them so that they can attempt possible solutions to these problems. IT'S THE """""STUPIDS""""", STUPID!!!!!
Simon Templar| 11.23.12 @ 11:53AM
And they cheated...inflating their numbers, their votes, and stealing your vote away from you and the rest of us. So, who is more stupid...
Oldefarte| 11.23.12 @ 12:33PM
"who is more stupid"? You and all of us will find out the answer when the governmental welfare system that the Democrats have historically built up over decades, and who these current domestic terrorists of their party have now tripled in monetary damages over the last four years, EXPLODES IN OUR FACES NEXT YEAR FROM COMPLETE OVERLOAD [after years of SNOWBALLING DOWN THE HILL OF THIS COUNTRY] AND HITS THE BRICK WALL OF OUR EXISTENCE!!!!!!!!!!!
Oldefarte| 11.23.12 @ 12:42PM
"who is more stupid"? I and many of us did the one and only thing possible for us in our PEEBLE IN THE OCEAN existence, and that is to VOTE FOR THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS AND THE ONE REPRESENTING THE BEST CHANCE FOR SOME PARTIAL REMEDY/SUCCESS. As I have stated many times here, in my forty years of voting, I have totally and completely pulled the lever for Republican Party candidates. Not that they were ever saints or divorsed from mistakes, scandal etc; but for the most part they represented and governed as best they could with our democratic government [within which its administration by the majority, not a dictatorial one as in private business]. The major problems of this country have been caused by Democrats mostly running over the minority party of Republicans in a greater-numbers scenerio. Yeah, I know who is more stupid, but too many of other Americans do NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bob Grant| 11.23.12 @ 1:23PM
Well put.
I take the LESSER OF THE TWO EVILS approach when voting as well, because I'm well aware that democrats are drivers of the problems that face this country and republicans sometimes go along.
To the conservatives who sat out this election because the choice wasn't up to their lofty standards, I say FYOU!!!
We'll talk in about 4-5 years when The Obama Supreme Court has eliminated what's left of your freedoms.
Fools!
Oldefarte| 11.23.12 @ 1:25PM
Amen to that, BG! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simon Templar| 11.25.12 @ 7:15PM
OF, I was not implying that you were stupid. Everything you wrote I agree with. Yes, the idiots that sat it out, the idiots waiting for the prefect candidates, and the idiots who refuse to see that this election was a corrupted sham are the stupid as you often refer to in your comments. Of course, those that have gone along and caved to all this insanity for so many years namely the GOP, fit the bill as well.
