From my perspective, though, and I've lived in CA for just short of 40 years, I see increased taxes to fund state employee pensions, and businesses leaving the state as well as the high earners at a record pace. I also see more and more welfare-consuming illegal aliens, not just Mexicans, but Armenians, Muslims, etc., etc., while Moonbeam is scheming to build a train to nowhere. Give it time, you'll see the errors of your ways. The pendulum has a funny way of swinging back.

One problem for the Enlightened States is that some of them, most prominently California and Illinois, have potentially disastrous debt problems related to unfunded public employee benefits and pensions. In California, several cities have already declared bankruptcy, and Jerry Brown's only solution seems to be to raise taxes without doing anything to reform the pension and benefits system and then hang on and hope for a federal bailout when the whole thing blows up.

The bulk of the portable energy, food and military are all centered in the Red States. Fresh water is a regional thing and you don’t control rain, weather or climate.

Btw, have you read Victor Cha's "North Korea: The Impossible State" ? When Korea was divided after WWII, the North was more industrialized and better educated. The South was mainly rural.
We all know the status of North and South Korea today. I see a similar scenario for Red State/Blue State America if InSaneBoy's fondest wish comes true. Of course Red State would have the success and Blue State would have their Dear Leader.
