The Spectacle Blog

Fox News is reporting that the CIA refused a request from personnel in their Benghazi “annex” for military backup as they were being attacked, and twice told heroes who wanted to go help those under siege at the embassy to “stand down.”

Mitt Romney should bury the Obama administration with this, but his recent lack of aggressiveness, while perhaps a decent tactic in the third debate, has me a little worried that he won’t go for the throat when he can.

To be clear, this is not just an issue of a political opportunity to beat Obama. This is an issue of our government seeming to barely care — perhaps out of their own intensely political approach to everything — that Americans were being killed. And the only reason they care now is because it might be hurting Obama’s re-election prospects. Yes, I believe that.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s story about why he refused to allow military aid to our people in Benghazi is simply unacceptable. After all, is not part of the purpose of a Rapid Reaction Force or Special Forces teams precisely to go into chaotic situations to save their countrymen, whether civilians or other members of the military?

As someone who spent part of his youth growing up on a US Marine base, I personally am disgusted by the way the Obama administration thinks of and uses our military. I can only imagine how our Special Forces warriors who were just a few hours away from Benghazi felt, and feel today, being told to stay away or “stand down” as our ambassador and other Americans were dying.

The administration’s actions may not go quite as far as to be treasonous, but they go far beyond simple incompetence and well into the territory of gross negligence. If this president were a Republican (putting aside the fact that the reaction would likely have been very different), the media would be calling for heads to roll. And if decisions this damaging were made in the private sector, the CEO would already have fired those who made the decisions, and then submitted his own resignation.

From the news story:

Woods, Doherty and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the Consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged. The quick reaction force from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the Consulate and Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack. They could not find the ambassador and returned to the CIA annex at about midnight.

At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied.

These actions are consistent with supporters of jihad.

Worse than Carter. Worse than Carter and Clinton combined.

RJ| 10.26.12 @ 12:52PM

Absolutely true. America has never had a President remotely like Obama. His book was "Dreams from My Father." Well, it seems true that his values reflect a third world mentality rather than that of an American. He also lives in an intellectually isolated world - anything that he does not believe is banished from his world, while he erects opposition made of straw.

One must understand who Valerie Jarrett is, in order to understand why Obama is such a fool.

Yes, the company that he keeps tell us about the man. It is surprising that a President of the United States has a group of friends and supporters like those of Obama.

woodsman1st| 10.26.12 @ 1:40PM

Your right! One lied under oath; the other was incompetent; based upon Obama's own words that he would side with Islam should the winds change, add in his total support from the White House for Islam, this can be nothing short of treason!

Occam's Tool| 10.26.12 @ 5:14PM

Yup. I've got him behind Buchanan, and probably ahead of Hoover on the crap President scale. He comes in as number TWO, which is somewhat appropriate. (Obama screwed up domestic AND foreign policy, Hoover screwed up domestic policy alone, but arguably worse in that area than Obama)

This time around, we need a President who does not ignore Liberal slurs, but slaps back. We need a Carville on our side. Perhaps Dick Morris?

Warrior| 10.26.12 @ 9:36PM

Perhaps Newt, he can generally return bullshit in a tactful way. By the way, you are being very kind ranking him as the second worst.

Stan Redmond| 10.26.12 @ 1:06PM

Obama hi'self says the military serves him. All things serve the great Obama. If sending in a platoon of Marines was politically beneficial he would have done it. But for, God knows why, some reason he thought he was better served to NOT react to the attacks. Now, everyone around Obama is serving him by falling on their own swords to protect the Obama. The Obama is an absolutely disgusting human being and treacherous CIC. Even more shocking is the treatment Tyrone Woods' father received from The Obama, Clinton, and Biden.

IMPEACH.

RAISE HELL ON THE HOUSE AND SENATE FLOORS UNTIL YOU FORCE THE MSM TO COVER THE STORY!

Butch| 10.26.12 @ 1:20PM

Negligent homicide. Putting re-election before everything. Involvement in Lybia was unilateral on the part of the administration in the first place. There was no congressional consent; it was not even asked. Shameful. Criminal.

darcy| 10.26.12 @ 5:57PM

Negligent homicide, exactly. Of course, life never has mattered to him, witness his votes in the Illinois senate, four times to let die, or kill, BABIES born alive from botched abortions. If this does not tell us who this "man" is then nothing does.

Callous, calculating, phony, and heartless about sums it up, in my estimable opinion.

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 1:24PM

You let then get away with this, it will not matter who wins the election, our republic and the system our founders created will be dead.
Where the hell are our representatives? Why is it only a part of the conservative media and talk radio paying attention to this and trying to sound the alarm?

Mike G| 10.26.12 @ 3:28PM

Our representatives are on vacation until after the election. One would think that if he really wanted to do something, Johnny Boner would call them back for a special session.

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 3:50PM

Exactly, Mike!

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 1:24PM

Start calling your reps and start screaming bloody hell!

AC-130U Gunship was On-Scene in Benghazi, Obama Admin Refused to Let It Fire!

woodsman1st| 10.26.12 @ 1:36PM

Based upon Obama's own words, "should the winds change, I will side with Islam"; He said that!
This is not sheer negligence or even politics; Obama did as he said he would do. Obama sided with Islama and Americans died because of it. Then for 14 days Obama lied about it; had his entire staff lie about it; had Hillary Clinton lie about it.
That is more than enough grounds to charge Obama with Treason; and the rest of them with aiding and abetting!
Racism be dammmed, it's time to call out Obama, charge him; and let a jury decide.

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 3:52PM

Woodsman, where did you get that quote,"should the winds change, I will side with Islam."
I am very curious...was this in one of his books?

JmsA| 10.26.12 @ 1:41PM

Nothing better reveals the ravenous for power and criminally incompetent nature of Obama's administration.

lsudolemite| 10.26.12 @ 1:43PM

Speaking of which, where exactly are our fearless leaders in Congress on this?

Stkman| 10.26.12 @ 1:43PM

I'm beyond disgusted with the entire Democratic Party. I pray the Romney wins the election, and if he doesn't I pray we have the long overdue revolution so we can purge ourselves of those like Obama and Clinton. My third pryaer if we couldn't have a revolution would be that my home state of Texas leave the union. We've already been invaded by millions of illegals, we aren't part f the U.S. anymore, the U.S. saw to that. The U.S. has renigged on its promises of the Constitution to all the border states and has not only failed, but has refused to protect us from invasion. To hell with Obama!

Maxwell| 10.26.12 @ 1:57PM

Rush has been talking about this from his 12:00 noon to 1:00 when I had to come back in from lunch. Who left these brave men out to dry? Will we ever know?

wrhalljr| 10.26.12 @ 2:03PM

Now we know why they were blaming the video for weeks! Really this is much bigger then Watergate because people died! The media will not be able to bury this one!!!

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 2:15PM

There will come a time and it has in history where good men stop listening to the cynics, the excuse makers, and the false misleading voices of so-called temperance and restraint and take up arms to defend their families, their inalienable rights and their liberty. We are getting very close to that point.
I am not sure what is more threatening, this Benghazi scandal and its coverup or this corruptly driven election.

er| 10.26.12 @ 3:09PM

Mr. Kaminsky:

Your worry about Romney is sounding a bit silly; I mean, here is a successful guy who 1) doesn't need the crap of a national campaign, 2) was ridiculed by CONSERVATIVES since 2008, 3) heard incessant "sky is falling" shrieking from the Right about "you're losing, you're losing" ONLY WEEKS ago; and 4) with one week to go he has WAY MORE money for the finish line than Comrade Obama; destroyed him in the debates, and is AHEAD in WISCONSIN. Yikes! Ross, relax and you as a journalist scream with every sentence this travesty in Benghazi; that is your job. Romney's job is to win the election, and it looks to me like he is kicking butt. And don't worry; we will be all over Romney once he takes the oath and is accountable.

mike 3/505| 10.26.12 @ 4:21PM

Ross,

Governor Romney has learned something about senior level leadership, that President Obama has yet to....the time and place for the senior leader to engage. Obama's famous "The police acted stupidly," comment, showed he was willing to engage down to the tactical level. Governor Romney is letting this play out. The American people will figure this out, without Governor Romney interjecting right now and appearing to politicize a tragedy of inept, er....epic proportions.

Regards,

Mike

There is also a saying...poetic license here....When the opposition is playing Russian Roulette with a revolver loaded in all six cylinders, let them.

Occam's Tool| 10.26.12 @ 4:34PM

Apparently Biden asked Mr. Woods, one of the slain Seals' dad, if his son "always had balls the size of cue balls?"

What a classless asswipe.

Butch| 10.26.12 @ 6:01PM

I heard that. While he was looking at his son's casket, wasn't it? I wish the dad had punched him.

BREAKING NEWS....

Central Intelligence Agency director David Petraeus has emphatically denied that he or anyone else at the CIA refused assistance to the former Navy SEALs who requested it three times as terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on the night of Sep. 11. The Weekly Standard reports that Petraeus's denial effectively implicates President Barack Obama, since a refusal to assist "would have been a presidential decision."

IMPEACH.

I only needed to see, "FOX news is reporting..." to know I didn't need to read any further.
