Yesterday I noted a sharp rise in the betting odds on Mitt Romney’s winning the presidency, with Romney’s having risen from 34% to 44% in a week. In the 36 hours since that time, Romney’s odds have dropped substantially, now back down to 38%.

I’m tempted to buy more, but I think I’ll hold off as I’ve bought quite a few already and I already feel like a Romney loss will be a greater loss than I or the nation can afford.

Bet big on some petroleum or oil equip stocks. Hedge by betting big on Obama to win. Romney wins you will really cash in, Obama wins you'll get the cash, oil stocks may still hang in there for a while.

You really are an idiot. This is just a game to you...

Ross Kaminsky| 10.25.12 @ 10:12PM

Actually, if you think this is just a game to me then you are the idiot.

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 12:57AM

Then quit writing these stupid articles about your betting on it. Perhaps, you should go work for Obama, his campaign slogan is "Betting on America."

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 1:04AM

Here I will explain it you. If it was 1776, I could see you placing bets in a saloon over whether or not the colonist would win this revolution. We are living in an incredibly dangerous time where our Republic as we know it might come to an end. You are crass.
It is damn well something to not be betting on. Go bet on some horses or dogs.

You know you are a thickheaded young fool that would not admit you made a mistake if your life depended on it. You are in your thirty's right, late thirty I would guess?

spike59| 10.26.12 @ 5:37AM

Simon, if your widdle panties are in such a twist over Ross's writing, perhaps you carry your whining arse off to the playground of the imbecilic known as PuffHo...they ADORE whiners over there

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 7:53AM

Well, it seems my whiny ass has a lot of company in this thread in that most agree with me. Furthermore, perhaps you should consider moving over the Huff and Puff as your comment with its lack of argument and silly name calling for name calling sake would be right at home there. I am guessing twenty something, right?

Simon Templar| 10.26.12 @ 7:57AM

Crass seems to be your forte as well, spike59.

I saw the headline and I thought this would be a mea culpa for that idiotic posting on Mourdock. Instead, it's another worthless post, even more than the last one.

Ross Kaminsky| 10.25.12 @ 10:11PM

What part of a title that starts "Political Betting" makes you think the piece might be about something other than political betting?

For the record, my note on Mourdock was right on target.

Paul Zummo | 10.25.12 @ 10:36PM

"I know you are but what am I." That would have been as deep a comeback as your insistence on the rightness of your Mourdock column. For the record, it is people like you, not Mourdock, that weaken our electoral chances. The freakout over Akin was understandable, but the hysterical over-reaction to Mourdoch's statements are frankly sickening.

ejp| 10.25.12 @ 10:40PM

Amen to that. And BTW, I never did get an answer to my question in that thread about whether or not Ronald Reagan should have "shut his mouth" when he expressed the SAME position on abortion that Mourdock has.

Paul Zummo | 10.25.12 @ 10:43PM

Funny thing is I hadn't even read that post until I saw your comment. I thought you were being unnecessarily harsh, but not after reading that.

The term can easily have a generic context, as I saw it. If there's a sudden obsession with looking at something like this as a bellwether for the Election, then I see no value in it.

And the Mourdock note was anything but on target. Criticism of something is one thing, but the manner in which your post was made was outrageous and the best gift liberal extremists could ask for.

Hi Ross,

I am surprised that intrade has Romney's odds so low given his current standing in the polls and the momentum we have seen this month. Do you think the odds are right or do you think they are subject to being manipulated? I am wondering if the Obama campaign, or at least some of its friends, have dropped some significant cash to uphold appearances. What do you think?

spike59| 10.26.12 @ 5:34AM

you're giving Intrade more weight than it deserves, given its epic fail over the SCOTUS decision on ObaMaoScare, possibly the most important case decided in years

Kingofthenet| 10.26.12 @ 11:01AM

You know Ross, the legality of Intrade for Americans is Dicey at best, not that i think you have anything to worry unless you invested REAL big money.
