Advice for Romney for tonight’s debate: Work the word “peace” into your conversation, very naturally, about 15 or 20 times. Undecided women voters want peace. They want peace. They want peace. And there also is a strain of libertarian-leaning, “pox on both houses” voter that hates Obama’s domestic policies but also hates what said strain of voters falsely calls “neocon” foreign policy and is just so damned disgusted enough to stay home rather than vote at all. Any vote would be for Romney, but they just might go hunting instead. They, too, want peace.

Look, I am a huge booster of stronger, bigger defense forces. I lean interventionist abroad. But the Weinberger/Powell Doctrine is still a good one: Only commit troops for dire reasons, for clear objectives, and with overwhelming force. One can be for, yes, peace through strength. One can advocate more military spending than Obama while still emphasizing that you don’t want to be a foreign adventurer. In fact, Romney will come across as more “hawkish” and more pro-defense than Obama no matter what he says — so he may as well play for the indy women’s vote by emphasizing, again and again, how his policies will help ensure the peace, the peace, the peace.

Romney needs to sound firm but calm and reasoned. The very nature of the topic makes it important for him not to be as in-your-face to Obama: Stylistic aggressiveness combined with the topic of defense and war will come across as saber-rattling. A few very well-practiced, firm, but quiet lines of criticism will do far more than bluster will tonight.

Finally, for what it’s worth, some matter-of-fact citations of the tacit endorsement from Lech Walesa would be very well advised. Note that Walesa got the biggest boost of his career from the 9-day visit of Pope John Paul II to Poland, a visit where faith most definitely worked in favor of freedom. A nice pivot to religious liberty would then be in order, with a note that never before have Catholic organizations felt so threatened that dozens of them felt the need to sue the federal government — and, for that matter, if Obama isn’t hostile to religious liberty, why did even the liberals on the Supreme Court slap him down 9-0 in a religious liberty case called Hosanna-Tabor? In the context of Walesa, freedom, etcetera, this pivot to a domestic issue will leave Obama bumfuzzled.

Oh… and did I mention that the idea is PEACE through strength? Peace out…..

It's this condescending dismissal of women that has gotten the GOP its minority status with female voters, Quin. They're not going to be persuaded by Romney repeating a word over and over again.

Condescending dismissal of women.....
Your projection and lying as a liberal and liberal troll know bounds and honestly leaves me speechless at times.
Vote with your body parts....
War on Women....a failed lame and manipulative attack that has led more women in this election to actually cross over..
And administration where women are actually paid less then the men in it...
Fluke...

They have already been persuaded. They see all the women who are governors that are republican and all those millions in the Tea Party leading it. Yeah, conservatives have dismissed them. Is their no lie that you will tell despite the mountains of evidence to the contrary?
Of course, not..comrade..

I am going to reveal a little secret about why I became a conservative and the main reason for this personal transformation.

I fully and completely came to realize that the Left and American liberals will lie to your face despite what your eyes and brain tell you is false.
They are not bias, everyone has biases including myself, they LIE, they Lie and lie boldly...
Have others, including conservatives ever lied? Sure, but they do not do it as a way of life, a political strategy, and political philosophy.

This is why they invented the term, 'narrative.'
They live to tell a narrative or essentially a pile of lies, a fairy tale, a story for consumption. Facts, truth, statistics, realities are unimportant..emotional responses and emotional thinking that stories conjure are more important.

The essential foundation stone of modern liberalism that man is inherently good and is corrupted by his institutions which only need to be changed so as to guide him to a utopian world is the major lie..all the rest that flows from that is the same filthy pile of lies that it begins with at its underpinning.

I think that this will be another beatdown, Mitt.

Emphasize the sodomization and murder of our Ambassador while Obama flew off to Vegas and lied about who did it.

If we were the Roman Empire Bengazi would already be a dead city sown with salt. Not a bad example....

Quin supported the debt financed invasion of Iraq to make it safe for Islam, but calls of himself, one who leans "globalist" err "interventionist."

What a joke. You are a globalist, Quin, and your cynical suggestion that Romney mention "peace" is probably good advice.

"...but also hates what said strain of voters falsely calls "neocon" foreign policy...."

Quin, the label is not false. It is a Neocon foreign policy. Your claim is naught but fantasy.

There will never be peace in the Middle East, simply because what is involved are extreme religious radicals and more to the point, ANIMALS. Anyone who is willing to kill/maime their own in attempts to win their cause can only be described as such. They are not doing so in revenge or retaliation, but agressively lasing out at anyone not of their beliefs destructively. They are like alligators, in that there is no taming of them possible as they will attack, eat and destroy either an innocent or other alligators in their pursuits. There will be no democracy within the ME, and at best Israel and the Western world can only hope to contain them militarily etc and will never be able to peacefully live in harmony with them because of who/what they are. Face the facts and the truth, and stop this political correctness BS. The US should completely [except for its relationship with its friend Israel] abondon the ME and thereafter economically fight these alligators by means of rendering their oil supplies financially worthless by means of embargoes and total productions of our vast domestic supplies/reserves of same [to replace the 2/3 that we now import from the ME]. With their oil revenues thus deminished, they will die a slow and eventual death of their countries and cultures from lack of money [since they have no other replacement sources of economic revenues]!!!!!
