Hugo Chavez won yet another six year term as President of Venezuela tonight. The socialist strongman won 54.4% of the vote.

Chavez faced a strong challenge by Henrique Capriles who garnered just under 45% of the vote. Capriles, a former state governor, conceded the election and congratulated Chavez on his victory.

But this was going to be the outcome no matter what. Does anyone honestly think Chavez would have accepted a defeat at the polls?

You might recall that Venezuela’s constitution once had term limits on the presidency. Chavez sought to have this and other provisions of the constitution changed in 2007 but narrowly lost. But Chavez would get his way in a second referendum in 2009 so Chavez can run indefinitely.

So one way or another, Chavez is President for Life. However, given the state of his health in recent years there’s a good chance Chavez will not survive to the end of his new term. Unfortunately, this means a lot of Venezuelans probably won’t survive until the end of his new term either.

You actually think he won? For real?

I truly doubt it.

Are the Venezuelans that stupid? How can anyone with half a brain, vote for a person to be their leader who's dying of cancer & needs to take chemotherapy?

THey learnt for the Soviets. I think half of the Poltiburo was on life support at one time or another. Placing bets when Andropov would keel over became one of the leading Soviet growth industries.

Chavez has metasatic rhabdomyosarcoma.

His life might end in six weeks or six months. He will never see another six years.

The only thing now that will save Venezuela is a well placed 7.62

Chavez would be better off moving to Cuba to get some of their world famous medical treatment for his illness.

I think he has already made several trips.

Congratulations, Venezuela. You're tyrant-for-life remains in power. Their subsudies thus guaranteed, though for how long no one can tell given Chavez's disease, the Cuban dictators and assorted communists both here and everywhere rejoice, as opression and missery remains.

Oops: meant to write remain.

Exit polling showed Chavez lost. Tanks were out in force as the electoral council declared Chavez the victor. Why the show of force, if he won? Let that be a warning. Socialists/Communists "don't lose elections".

There are plenty of all kinds of dupes. Just refer Plato's quote, below.

Chavez win gives Obama hope. And where there is hope there is another 18 rounds of taxpayer subsidized golf.

(And yes, I know I misspelled subsidies in my previous post.)

Thank God Chavez had Sean Penn come down and campaign for him at the last minute.
