The Spectacle Blog

During the same fundraising speech in which he made reference to the 47% who were going to vote for President Obama, Mitt Romney was even more candid about the Palestinians:

I’m torn by two perspectives in this regard. One is the one which I’ve held for some time, which is that the Palestinians have no interest whatsoever in establishing peace, and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish.

After speaking about Iranian ambitions on the West Bank, Romney went on to say:

And I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel.

Romney also mentions that a former Secretary of State recently called and indicated the possibility of a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians after the Palestinian elections. He did not disclose which Secretary of State nor why he or she believed that to be true. Regardless of which Secretary of State said this to Romney, this seems like wishful thinking to me.

I’m glad to see that a presidential candidate who is honest enough to admit that he cannot make peace in the Middle East. He is absolutely right to say that Palestinians aren’t interested in peace with Israel. It’s kind of hard to make peace with someone who wants to destroy you. So long as Palestinians name their streets, schools and soccer fields after those who have murdered Israelis and celebrate the murder of Israeli children by handing candies to their children there will never be peace. The time has come to have an White House that won’t pressure Israel into entering a peace agreement the Palestinians don’t want in the first place.

I must say that I like this side of Romney. He’s more relaxed and at ease when he’s engaged in straight talk. Mitt should let his hair down wherever he speaks.

Completely agree. It's refreshing indeed to see a candidate who isn't willing to engage in the folly of trying to win the hearts and minds of those who have neither hearts nor minds, but only primitive tribal instict.

Primitive tribal instinct is not receptive to reason because the primitive mind has neither the capacity for reason nor the ability to entertain ideas that require introspection. We all know this, but some are so arogant that they believe their superior intellect will be sufficient to overcome this insurmountable barrier. It's reassuring that there's a candidtate who is humble (and honest) enough to admit that he simply can't fix stupid.

Romney is right. The Arabs and Jews have been at it for thousands of years, and there's nothing we can do to change that.

Occam's Tool| 9.18.12 @ 8:27PM

Uh, no, Mr. G.

The Palestinians initially moved into Palestine, the majority of them, because the Jews were invigorating the economy. They left to help their fellow Moslems murder Jews. they lost, and their fellow Muslims never have let them settle down. their leaders take Billions of dollars in aid, and, like Mubarak, put them in Swiss accounts. Plagued by worthless leaders and a worthless religion, they train their children to die, and their leaders send teenage children to blow themselves up because they are too cowardly themselves to fight.

They could have riches, prosperity, and freedom if they would stop killing Jewish kids and blowing up their own. But they have no men among them, only savages.

It is refreshing to have somone running for president who realizes that the Palestinians have no desire for peace with Israel. If Israel gave up every square foot of land with the exception of two square feet to put a memorial on the Palestinians would bomb the memorial. Their stated goal is to destroy Israel. They make no secret of it so why is it that the people in foggy bottom have such a hard time believing it. It certainly makes you question their intelligence.

Kingofthenet| 9.18.12 @ 3:41PM

So if they want to destroy them, why would Israel give them an excuse? i.e. stealing their land?

spike59| 9.19.12 @ 6:42AM

'their land', historically, is in JORDAN

Foggy Bottom consists mostly of fools and or traitors, that's why, Mr. Fisher.

After hearing this silliness from Romney I feel less bad about his impending defeat.

Thanks for sharing; we've all been on the edge of our seats wondering how Mike would feel about the election. We can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Well, the Nigerians just crucified a cat; Palestinians behead Jewish babies and strap bombs to their own.

There is NO reason why Palestinians, if they quit bombings, could not be rich, prosperous, and safe. They have caused their own misery, along with Islam.

Bob Grant| 9.18.12 @ 9:07PM

The Palestinians hatred of Jews exceeds their desire to prosper.

It's reminiscent of the Anti-Colonialist views held by inhabitants of former colonial countries in Africa.

I you are in need of a deeper explanation, just ask our president. An expert on the topic.

spike59| 9.19.12 @ 6:41AM

tru dat, Mitt...tru dat

The Arab World and the Salons of the West don't want peace for Palestinians either. It's a great political football.
