If President Obama doesn’t consider Egypt an ally then I can only imagine what he considers Israel to be.

Ally is a general term without a crisp definition, but I agree with Obama's statement about Egypt - It isn't an ally of the United States. We had some common interests and we offered support to Egypt to encourage its promotion of those interests. The signs from the new Egyptian government indicates that it is less friendly towards the US and may renounce its peace with Israel. Time will tell as to what our relationship with Egypt will be. My guess is that American business interests will be much more reluctant to invest in Egypt and that China is interested in increasing its presence there.

The state department has definitions, whether we agree with them or not, and it's quite ridiculous for a guy who just made a (false) "ready, fire, aim" condemnation to put his foot in his mouth this soon afterward.

Presidents should use the official terms, or use their power to change them.

We should develop ALL of our own energy resources and let China have the Middle East. The Chinese aren't Muslim, so having a Chinese presence in the Middle East will result in the Chinese having to deal with the terrorists.

Good comment Mike. With pals like Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Libya we need no enemies. The whole region needs to be cut free to develop itself and resolve their differences without our sticking our noses in. They don't need us and we don't need them.

Maybe if he involved himself in more live briefings he would have picked up on the fact that Egypt is officially a Non-Nato Ally.

Diplomacy dictates that one sticks to that description of the relationship between the U.S.A and Egypt.

In 2008, this guy sold us a MAJOR bill of goods. At every opportunity he claimed he would take diplomacy to another level.

And just hours after the comment about Romney "shoots first, aims later".

This guy's got the reverse Midas touch. Unfortunately, he never has to pay for his failures and gaffs. The media cleans up his messes.

What a buffoon!!!

When did the change happen ? Really ? I’m sure the entire package to Egypt is “under review”, thus the veiled threat. Like we are going to give them money if they don’t honor the treaty with Israel? Or our embassy ? There is no error. We have no way of knowing what is going to grow out of the Arab spring seeds.
