The Spectacle Blog

Bill Clinton is the Democratic Party’s best salesman even when he’s selling a bill of goods.

He gave a good speech (although it went on way too long). But I’m not sure he believes a word of it.

It was rather curious of him to say the following:

Though I often disagree with Republicans, I never learned to hate them the way the far right that now controls their party seems to hate President Obama and the Democrats.

Did Bill Clinton miss eight years of George W. Bush being called a fascist and a Nazi?

And what about this past week? What about the Democratic official from Kansas who likened Mitt Romney’s talking points to Hitler’s “big lie”, the Democratic official from California who compared Paul Ryan to Goebbels not to be undone by the Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party who likened South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to Eva Braun.

Still, it does him no harm to sing the praises of Eisenhower, Reagan and both Bushes.

Yet he struggled to sing the praises of President Obama.

His best defense of Obama was when he praised Joe Biden for ending the War in Iraq and for the Stimulus Bill.

Bill Clinton isn’t helping Obama when he uses the phrase “saved or created jobs” and claims 95% of Americans received a tax cut.

This passage was also curious:

No President - not me or any of my predecessors could have repaired all the damage in just four years.

None of which stopped Obama from promising to keep unemployment below 8% and to cut the deficit in half. Perhaps Obama shouldn’t make promises he knows he can’t keep.

Nevertheless, Clinton did what he was supposed to do. He carried President Obama’s bags.

This line is EXCELLENT:
In Tampa, the Republican argument against the President’s re-election was pretty simple: we left him a total mess, he hasn’t cleaned it up fast enough, so fire him and put us back in.

Coward Robert Ford| 9.6.12 @ 5:51AM

Why did we elect him if if he couldn't fix the problem in 4 years?

Our biggest problem outside of unemployment is the debt which Obama has racked up at unprecendent levels. He can't blame Bush for the massive spending the last 4 years. Spending in the name of jobs and there are no jobs.

As Clint said, we got to let this guy go.

Joellen| 9.6.12 @ 9:52AM

Clinton is a RAPIST - what he says has no credibiltity to me and shouldnt to anyone who adheres to the law.

Jimbobogie| 9.6.12 @ 2:38PM

So, if Romney gets elected and doesn't fix the problm in 4 years, I expect that you'll want him turfed out too, right?

Occam's Tool| 9.6.12 @ 4:34PM

The problem of the budget is largely a Congressional one: ours started in 2007, when the Pelosi House began.

DRed| 9.5.12 @ 11:45PM

Arithmetic.

Coward Robert Ford| 9.6.12 @ 5:53AM

The driver of deficits is spending, not tax cuts. Clinton and Obama like to talk about deficit and debt reduction but don't like to talk about reducing spending. You don't geet to lecture people about math if you don't understand the equation. :)

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 12:29AM

Too bad Debbie Blabbermouth-Putz's repeated lies have overshadowed the past two days of the democrat convention.
And, the fact that the national debt surpassed the $16 TRILLION mark just as the convention opened.
And, the fact that the democrats tried to throw Israel under the bus at their convention.
Then, tried to pander to Israel with a rushed-through amendment.
Then, democrats voted THREE TIMES to reject the amendment that affirmed that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel (and booed God.)
Then, Villaraigosa cravenly lied when he claimed that the amendment passed with 2/3 of the delegates.

Even Bubba "The Rapist" Clinton can fix this fiasco. No matter how many times he wags his bony fingers at America.

Kingofthenet| 9.6.12 @ 12:58AM

Nick as far as the debt...You Republicans "BUILT IT"

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 1:07AM

WRONG!, again, KooK.

The Foodstamp President has increased the national debt $5.5 TRILLION in LESS than 4 years.
President Bush didn't increase the debt that much in EIGHT YEARS!
(And he fought two wars!)

If the O'Bama regime wins re-election, they will increase the debt for ALL Americans to $23 TRILLION by the time they leave office.

Kingofthenet| 9.6.12 @ 1:48AM

Silly Saint Nick, everyone KNOWS Bush didn't put the wars 'on the books'

irish19| 9.6.12 @ 8:58AM

Even if he had, he still wouldn't have racked up that much more debt.

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 2:08PM

They only cost around a trillion dollars, KooK.
And, they were on the books. That's how we know how much they cost, brainiac.

CJW| 9.6.12 @ 5:26PM

What books? Explain, King.

Coward Robert Ford| 9.6.12 @ 5:54AM

Last time I checked, Obama has spent more than like the past 10 presidents combined.

You can't blame Bush for Obama's spending and deficits and debt. He has got to man up and own his record. :)

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 9.6.12 @ 12:55AM

For all my faults with him (NATO intervention in Kosovo being the biggest of all) former President Clinton was a much better leader than W. Bush or Obama put together. Not that that's saying much. Clinton was a liberal Democrat who was also very much pro-business...with this new age of far left Democrats Bill Clinton could pass for a conservative. Clinton's embrace of the free trade policies enacted under H.W. Bush (NAFTA, GATT, etc.) was also a major folly. It essentially gutted America's manufacturing base.

Trinacria| 9.6.12 @ 12:15PM

Yes, quite - because great leaders routinely get hummers under the desk in the oval office from girls as young as their daughters while doing the business of the people...and then lie about it...and then get outsmarted by the same 21 year old who had the wherewithal to bag the evidence. Yeah, exemplary leader. Dumb ass!

Dimitry_Aleksandrovich| 9.7.12 @ 12:17AM

Well it could have been a 16 year old boy like Republican's in Congress have been caught with before. Jesus you must be thick headed Trinacria. I am extremely critical of Clinton and his policies many of which and some mentioned above I vehemently disagreed with, but politics is an art and Bill Clinton love him or hate him was good at it. Now can the logic of that get through your thick head?...Dumb Ass!

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 12:56AM

It was an amazingly eloquent speech ,of a life time--and it is sure to rev up and revitalize us Donkey's to whupping you Elephants in November in a way that y'all won't know what hit you!

BRAVO , BILL!!

..And Ms Warren and Ms. Fluke!!

What a difference from the sourness /bitterness/ and pure hatred , spewing out of Tampa, last week!!

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 1:01AM

You mean revitalize you JACK-ASSES.
The democrat party's mascot is the jack-ass, remember?

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 1:05AM

..and , The Repugs mascot is The Elephant--whose huge stinking turds tend to make most decent folk gag-remenber??

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 1:12AM

Ah, the real Pelleas returns, with the vocabulary of a 12 year old.

Hey, remember how your hero, the Polio Prince, let all those Jews die, when he wouldn't let the St. Louis dock at any of our ports?

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 1:18AM

You, "Sir", are an ass-hole extraodinaire...

..even for this site..

What-- the word "turd" is getting your panties in a bunch now, tinkerbelle?

BTW.. it was a largely Republican voting bloc which made emergency immigration to The U.S. virtually impossible, in the '30's

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 1:29AM

Everyone knows that the Polio Prince hated Jews.
He would have hated Israel, too, had he not vapor-locked in the arms of some whore in Warm Springs, GA.

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 12:58PM

Again...how "Christian" of you... calling Missy Le Hand a "whore"

AND..

The anti-semitism that MIGHT have come from the Roosevelts ( I have heard allegations that even Eleanor was guilty of some rather ill-tempered remarks, in her younger days...) was the garden-party variety that just about every NON-Jewish person , in THIS Country shared , in the first half of the 20th Cent.

BTW..FDR appointed MORE JEWS to Cabinet/Court/Governmental positions than ANY other President, before, or since...nu?

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 1:04PM

Actually, I was in error....

It was Lucy Mercer Rutherford who MIGHT have been with the President, as he was sitting for a portrait, at Warm Springs

EVEN if Mrs.Rutherford MIGHT have been FDR's mistress--to call her a "whore" is just one more reason to call YOU a PIG...

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 2:05PM

Actually, you are ALWAYS in error, tinker bell.

Who cares who the whore was? The fact is that the Polio Prince vapor-locked before he could have expressed his complete hatred for the Jews, by NOT recognizing Israel.
Plus, Eleanor was a MAN, baby!

Jimbobogie| 9.6.12 @ 2:41PM

Folks, is this what "political dialogue" has been reduced to?

I guess the answer is "Yes"...

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 3:04PM

Nick:

How really STUPID and thuggish is it possible that you are?

There WAS NO Israel for FDR to "recognize", PRIOR to 1948--at which time, President Truman was one of THE FIRST supporters of that Nation...

As for Eleanor "being a man"-- besides that being up to your usual standards of piggery-- she DID have quite a few children of HER OWN- so regardless of whatever rumors you might spread about her private inclinations.. it proves that YOU are a FOOL...

Nick| 9.6.12 @ 7:21PM

"How really STUPID and thuggish is it possible that you are?"

I don't know, Pelleas.
From who you learn English how you did?

Let me guess? English is not your first language, huh?

Pelleas| 9.6.12 @ 8:36PM

No--English is Not my first language...so what?

French and Hebrew are...

Coward Robert Ford| 9.6.12 @ 6:00AM

Libierals live in another world if they think Warren and Fluke don't come across as sour and bitter and petty. Fluke acts like she's a victim and nobody can criticize her. Welcome to the real world, babe.

Occam's Tool| 9.6.12 @ 4:36PM

Dear Pelleas: I respect you for recognizing that Israel is a decent state, but you are deluded, dear sir. I have NEVER been surprised by the result of an election, EVER!

Obama's going down.

Kingofthenet| 9.6.12 @ 1:04AM

As far as the majority of the Debt, Republicans Repeat after me..."WE BUILT IT"

Coward Robert Ford| 9.6.12 @ 5:55AM

hey at least a liberal thinks we built something on our own.

A liberal hates debt so much he is foaming at the mouth to go re-elect Obama. :)

JD| 9.6.12 @ 4:59PM

Kingofthenet's brain cannot tolerate our refusal to believe his lie.

JimH| 9.6.12 @ 7:27AM

So let me get this straight. The best the Dems could do for a speaker was a impeached, disbarred rapist whose domestic policies were closer to the GOP then to what his party is currently pushing? I’ll take the old guy and the empty chair. His only reason for being there was to reinforce the notion that his administration was some sort of trailer park Camelot II so his party begs for Hilary in four years.

Trinacria| 9.6.12 @ 12:19PM

Yep. And this same guy was there to nominate the guy that he famously characterized as an amateur and clueless. Noble fellow, he.

Jimbobogie| 9.6.12 @ 2:43PM

JimH, maybe I missed his speech, but where was George Bush...or Dick Cheney?

Occam's Tool| 9.6.12 @ 4:37PM

Cheney is recovering from a HEART TRANSPLANT, and Bush is being ex-Presidential in a proper fashion, attending to his library.

Patrick in Michigan | 9.6.12 @ 9:00AM

Did Bill Clinton miss eight years of George W. Bush being called a fascist and a Nazi?

Pretty much. This is one of the 500 million reasons why I left, "The Left." Because of their selective memory. Not to mention their treatment of the Military.

sunflower | 9.6.12 @ 12:35PM

Yes, it went on way too long.
It was pleasant to hear nice things said about Conservatives.
But.....who cares? You can't believe anything he says.
