The Spectacle Blog

I read about Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s remarks to a Planned Parenthood rally in Charlotte before the start of the DNC via Katrina Trinko at NRO. Well, judge for yourself. Referencing last week’s RNC, Booker said:

Then I heard something that is one of the reflections, an echo of some of the most insulting things we’ve been hearing for a long time. I heard people stand up and say, ‘I love women.’ I heard people stand up: ‘I’ve got a sister. I’ve got a mother.’”

That’s like saying you’re not a bigot ‘cause you have a black friend. That’s like saying I love Latinos, I go to Taco Bell every week. That is like saying that you are a person that is just and right because you know what, you like Jewish people.

To start with I wish Booker would specifically identify the Republicans to whom he objects. Otherwise he is making blanket statements. Then again, we ought to know why Booker is taking this tone. Since calling Obama’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s association with Bain Capital “nauseating” back in May, Booker has been in the President’s doghouse. He needs to get his street cred back and what better way to do it than by taking a battle position in the non-existent “War on Women” while insinuating Republicans don’t care for African-Americans, Latinos and Jews.

It’s just the sort of talk I find nauseating. I would expect more of Cory Booker. But then again he is a Democrat.

Why are your surprised? He is a Democrat trying to make up for saying something nice about Romney and Bain. He has to toe the line to stay in the party.

Until recently, Cory Booker has had a reputation of being mildly bi-partisan, working with Chris Christie, etc. At a highly charged partisan event like the DNC, if he doesn't establish his bona fides, he could find himself sharing Joe Lieberman's 2006 fate in the near future (would Ned Lamont move south a little and consider a run for mayor?).

I read that Ed McMahon purchased much of Avalon in the early 1950's but sold it before the boom. I remember, as a youth, Johnny Carson joking about McMahon owning property in Jersey since he always made fun of Jersey.
On an unrelated note, we now have so many DUI cases that there is a "DUI HOTEL" to do the mandatory four day jail prison for certain offenses. It is an actual hotel, cost is $500, locked down, and you must attend rehab sessions all day. Seems to work better that spending 4 days in jail complaining and getting jailhouse law advice.
So far, less recidivism.

What we have is yet another black politician - yes, I'm pointing that out specifically - making another false accusation of racism.

Is it OK to call Booker a bigot?

Mike G| 9.4.12 @ 11:00PM

Well, since he didn't reference anyone from Chicago, he probably doesn't fit the Dems description of a bigot. But let's go ahead and call him one anyway.

It may not be poor Cory's fault. Most people will crack after a few months of brain-washing. He was probably locked in a room having to hear nonstop recordings of Barbara Boxer, Harry Reid, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews and the endless parade of mindless liberal die-hards. It would drive anyone insane.

It must be taken in context that Mr. Booker is speaking before a group of people who make a living off of killing babies. From that context it should be nauseating that there is such an organization such as Planned Parenthood in the first place let alone that morally bankrupt politicians would cater to such murderers. The Democratic Party used to be the party of the white working class be they Roman Catholics or Southern Baptists...now its the party of abortion on demand and in your face homosexuality. That's why all though my economic ideas have been moving further to the left there is still no way in hell I'm embracing the Democratic Party. At the same time my social conservatism has been moving further and further to the right. The Democratic Party used to champion the unborn and the sensibilities of socially conservative working people...they still court the union vote, but they abandon us as soon as they get elected. To hell with both the Republican and Democratic Parties they are both rotten in corrupt and the American people deserve better.

Hardly surprising from a party that was founded on the principle of appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Cory's speech last night was HILARIOUS! i was reminded of his 'hostage video'...only last night, he seemed to be blinking, "help, my tiny little brain has been taken captive by zombies"
